P 9 may 45047 Anything goes in 'Alaska' 'cause it's too damn cold. - Kevin Kiene The 1979 Leadership Retreat went over with no complications. After squishing 71 people twith as- sorted pillows, purses, and munchies1 on one school bus, the journey began. Through much laughter and sing-a-longs, the retreaties arrived at Camp Arbladoa get-away in the San Bernardino mountains run by the YMCA. Secret pals, anonymous corresponders, main- tains an aura of mystery throughout the weekend. The 300 club was instated when it was found out that Sue Busse, Terese Cartwright, Sandy Edwards, and Kevin Kiene had attended the leadership retreat for three consecutive years. Movies were shown for enjoyment. Hounds of the Baskervilles, That's Entertainment, and Paper Chase all proved enjoyable. Many activi- ties were undertaken during the weekend. The annual talent show had such memorable acts as: The varsity B.A. team, Alaska, fashion show, Elvis and the Guys, and the 11:00 News. Snowmen were built by the class of '80 and others, along with a snow couple. Four workshops were held-A. The personality that leads, B. Planning Spirit Week, C. Unity and individuality, and D. The Convention. Initiation was held for those who had never been before. They had to sing for their sup- per, sometimes more than once. A few quotes came back with the group, Ohhh Baby, Alaska, and Go with it. Despite, or because of, the scarcity of chap- erones, everyone was quoted as saying, That was the best retreat ever! The Kiwanis Bowl, similar to television's General Electric Bowl, is based on intellectual competition in testing instant recall of a wide variety of facts and gen- eral knowledge. It is a single elimination tournament held annually among Orange County high schools. 1.1 A Family Portrait of the 1979 Leadership participants reveals the aura of fellowship and warmth. 2.1 Flexing his biceps to You are my sunshine , are Tom Daly with his back-up group-jon Dunn, Steve Bumpass, and Randy Morton. 3.1 Posing for a quick shot is Randy Morton and Scott Bradshaw. 4.1 Alumnae Andi Anderson and Wendy Doty enjoy a relaxing moment with Mr. Behn. 5.1 Mike Kaulfelt and Randy Kunert exhibit their skit ALASKA! 6.1 Paul George tcenter1 leads his Varsity B.A. squad through their revealing warm-ups. 7.1 Standing with their snow couple are- Teresa Car- twright, Sue Busse, joe Hsy, Robert McDonald, Amy Swett, Dan Carmen, and Lisa Cartwright. 8.1 Getting warmed-up for the week- end raids are Mike Kaulfelt, Paul Ballas, and Steve Bumpass. 91 Sue Einstein and Steve Vautrin confer during a meeting at lunch. 101 The Kiwanis Team- Back Row: Ms. Gayle Levine, Ted Williams, Bill Parker, Karen Carver, Captain, Mike Rosenthal, Clark Arnwine, Steve Vautrin, Ms. Nancy Clark.
