K CB lillliil lilllltllmll H153 ln a world that seems to be getting smaller by the minute, a second language becomes very important for almost every career. fMs. Kiddel. For that reason, many students took French, German or Spanish, not only to meet college entrance requirements, but to learn about another culture and to someday carry on conversations with people from other countries. Many courses took field trips and all courses participated in a foreign language camp where English was strictly forbidden for two whole days. Stimulated by the goal of improving reading and applying reading skills to other areas, both educational and vocational, the Reading Department reached almost all levels of stu- dents. ln the Reading Lab with its special equipment, most students followed courses tailored to their individual needs and thereby moved at their own pace without pressure. By next year the Reading Department hopes to have a Reading for Survival class and in future years hopes to have a team reading system similar to the sophomore and junior history course studies. 'I.
