DESK With courses ranging from stenography to ac- counting, the Business Department tried to de- velop students' employable skills in secretarial, clerical, and bookkeeping areas. Another Busi- ness Department objective was to help students become knowledgeable consumers. Under the leadership of Mrs. Lori juan, the department coped with an average of twenty-seven students per class. The classes involved participants in twelve diverse areas of business. Throughout the year, the department was involved in the Sears Executive Secretarial Program, the District Busi- ness Contest, and the Rotary Club Student of the Month Contest. The Home Economics Department strove to present opportunities available in the field and also worked to make students self-sufficient in all areas taught in the department. More than 200 students were involved in the coed Home Eco- nomics Department, chaired by Carol Gressingh. Although cooking and sewing were the primary subjects, family care and other important aspects needed to run a household were taught. The Home Economics students' projects were dis- played at the Christmas Open House and the Spring Show. Special Education provided a favorable envi- ronment in which students could overcome vari- ous learning disabilities and promote them- selves, both academically and vocationally. Each instructor geared his or her courses to specific individuals and groups. The instructors expressed the desire to have each student reach his or her full potential by following a three-year plan that suited them. 1. Mr. Ted Ondracek, Business. 2.
