llllE'l' lllllll lllIII.Il Canyon's water-based clubs, Scuba and Ski,were both blessed in '77-78. Taking full advantage of the new pool, many stu- dents took classes in scuba, the more inter- ested Comanches joined newly-formed Scuba Club. Ms. Rosie Grohs, advisor, en- couraged the members to work for their certificates and learn more about scuba diving. The big trip of the year was to Cata- lina for a full day of diving and abalone fishing. Travel was highly important to the Ski Club too, since the end of a two year drought afforded opportunities for more frequent ski trips. inclement California weather made possible a trip to Mammoth over Thanksgiving, and week end excur- sions to Big Bear and Mammoth for the rest of the season. Through their affiliation with the Explorer Scouts, members became eli- gible for group rates on trips out of state. Avid skiers visited Utah at Christmas and Easter. President Andi Pernell and Vice Presidents lody O'Neill and Marty Nelson led the club in planning a Canyon trip to Yosemite in April, finishing one ofthe most active years for the Ski Club at Canyon. 1. Ski Club members Teri McHugh, Linda Byrd, Karen Macfarlane, Carolyn Paukstis, jody O'Neill, and Mike Newman talk over plans for the next ski trip. 2. Doug Fuhrodt watches Dan Carman and Darren Webb practice the step-off method to enter the water from a boat. 3. When no area is available to step-off, this method, demonstrated by Darren Webb, Phil Ber- riman, and Dan Carman, must be used. 4. Darren Webb prepares to don his tank and resuscitation B.C. 5. The Scuba Club, Front Row: Darren Webb, Mark Short, Ken Shedarowich, Marlo Reynold, Ms. Rose Grohs, Randy Feeney, Charlotte Byron, Doug Fuhrodt, Ms. loyce lacksong Back Row: Paul DiMario, Dan Car- man, Phil Berriman, Laura Kough, and Eric Nepp. 6. Checking out his regulator to make sure it is working properly, Darren Webb prepares to dive to the bot- tom. 7.
