--v- ,.4.....rf , r:',hU9' - t C , 4 PIIILIGHTIIIIIS Sixteen hard-working reporters enjoyed in- creased facilities when SMOKE SIGNALS moved in to share a room and advisor with the LEGEND staff. Every two or three weeks, the SMOKE SIG- NALS staff published a four to eight page paper under the direction of Editor-in-Chief Mark Haas. Advisor Ms. Pat Fairchild stressed basic journalistic style to her staff, but still allowed enough freedom for them to develop a style and philosophy of their own. Field trips were taken to L.A. Times and Orange City News to stimulate the staff and to help improve their reporting skills. Members of the staff also attended area and state journalism conferences as well as write-off competitions in the spring. Cries of l'm so confused and What are we gonna do? flooded the publications room where members of Canyon's LEGEND staff at- tempted to produce an impressive yearbook. Di- rected by Editor-in-Chief janis Ray, LEGEND staffers struggled to overcome the deadline blues while coping with apparent nervous break- downs. Such mental deficiencies led the class to depend upon their beloved Editor-in-Chief to unabounded extents, making completion of the bigger-than-ever yearbook a miracle. Also aided by their new advisor, Mrs. Fairchild, LEG- END photographers, and editors, writers worked hard the entire year to make Comanche pride evident in the fifth anniversary edition of the Legend. 1. The number of Girls' League participants in- creased during the 1977-78 school year as Com- anche girls discovered that all female students at Canyon were automatic members of the organi- zation. Members worked hard during the year to suit the activity needs of all the girls at Canyon High. Meetings were spent discussing and plan- ning the annual Sadie Hawkins Dance, Hi Mom, and Date Dad festivities, while innovating a Girl of the Month program. Each month after exten- sive screening, one girl from each grade level was chosen by a panel of teachers, adminis- trators, and Women's Club representatives. The Anaheim Hills Women's Club sponsored the program and awarded a scholarship based on service to Canyon and the community to a Girl of the Year. Under the leadership of Advisor Ray Dunne and President Andre Perra, Canyon's Key Club was once again of great service to the immediate community. Landscaping and other campus im- provement projects were the most visible ac- complishments of Key Club, but other club ac- tivities included key hunts, car rallies, basketball tournaments and luncheons. Through the hard work of the members, over two thousand dollars were made during the '77-78 school year. 1.
