I . ,i ll: .ll.lt4 SEIIIIIII SPIIIIT Receiving the honorable mention of superior squad at cheerleading camp during the summer was only the start for Canyon's '77-'78 varsity cheerleaders. The spirit stick was also won at camp, where 150 schools were in attendance. This spirit continued to grow throughout the school year as the girls faithfulness in attending and cheering at varsity sports events supported the teams to the year's end. In addition, many students felt that pep assemblies were more en- joyable than ever before. The varsity cheer- leaders' hard work and preparation was defi- nitely appreciated in this area, and their efforts to make Canyon more spiritfilled added to Ca- nyon's legend. 1. Gll llIlI1' EIISPIIIIT Spirited junior Varsity Cheerleaders worked year-round in order to arouse needed enthu- siasm for non-varsity teams. The j.V. squad had to cope with new experiences such as learning when to yell at swimming meets and learning exactly what went on at a water polo game. Other projects included decora- ting lockers the day of a game, learning to adjust from a six member squad to a five member squad after having Head Cheer- leader Maureen Medina move away, cheer- ing at CIF varsity games, winning Spirit Stick twice and receiving ribbons for excellence at NCA camp. Comanche newcomers found their way to class on the first day of school, aided by the helpful Sophomore Cheerleaders. Squad memories included camp, when Kelly got stuck in the door, beaver fever, the big thud, and sleepyhead who missed out on the spirit guns and girl to girl talks. The Soph- omore Cheerleaders also had the privilege of cheering at CIF Varsity games, making '77-78 a year to remember for all. 'l. Sophomore Squad: Front Row: Kelly Myers, Elaine Trosper, Middle Row: Teri Willis, Shelley Willisp Back Row: janet McKinney, jabette Bradley. 2. junior Varsity Cheerleader Robin Timm enjoys her new role as jV Bas- ketball Team member during a pep rally role ex- change. 3. Closing her eyes in anticipation of a victory, jenny Kunkel lets out a big yell. 4. junior Varsity Squad: Teresa Massey, Kathy Taylor, Robin Timm, jenny Kunkel, Debbie Fardig, Maureen Medina. 5. jabette Bradley and Mike Kauftelt trade outfits for a different pep assem- bly. 6.
