'IIMETIIING NEW Changes have always occurred at Canyon High, but the '77-78 school year brought many more than usual. Rain was the most significant physical change, the drought officially ended, and umbrellas were seen dotting the campus for the first time in Canyon's five years of existence. Formerly, in view 'of the normal light rainfall, Comanches abandoned umbrellas in favor of getting a little wet. However, with 29.14 inches of rain by March, many students were tired of get- ting a little wet. The abundance of water also brought other changes. Swimming, diving, and water polo were added to Cayon's long list of competitive sports. This helped alleviate over- crowding in PE classes, however, bungalows had to be installed to accomodate the 1850 students and stop the overcrowding of classrooms. Stu- dents were also pleased to notice the aesthetic additions of grass, trees and benches which defi- nitely improved lunchtime relaxation. Canyon's first carnival and later the first gong show added entertainment value to the year, while Girls League innovative Girl of the Month, later changed to Student of the Month in the spring, honored one student each month from the Sophomore Class, junior Class, and Senior Class who were considered outstanding in service to the school and community. Each of these changes made Canyon's '77-78 year unique and one to remember. 1. Canyon Girls of the Month: Mary Durka, Susan Jefferies, Lori Ventrola, Briana Baldwin, Brook Casteel, Karen King, Carey Hayes, Janis Ray, Kelly Konser, Stephanie Brown. 2. Swimming Team members display some of Canyon's fine ath- letic ability as they race to the finish line. 3. CHS's first carni- val enabled students to become involved in unique activities. 4. Out-of-the-way bungalows seem deserted during class- time. 5. Charlene Lescault, Kris Druilhet and Shelly Slough also were given the honor of being named Girl of the Month. 38 . 1 1 1 ga-nl.. ua lkl
