I III 'IH' 'I' I III Ii Spirit Week began with a breakfast on Octo- ber 5 and ended with the Homecoming Dance on October 8. The days were loaded with special events, costumes, rowdiness, and spirit, soph- omores, juniors, and seniors had three days to display their spirit instead of the usual separate one per class. Little Kids' Day started early with breakfast in the cafeteria, consisting of doughnuts and drinks. During this time, the seniors began the point competition by winning the skit contest with I Wish I Were a Canyon High Senior. Next the seniors gained points when Mother Nancy Pre- scott and Son Greg Canfield won the Baby Bottle Feed. It seemed the seniors were on to some- thing big, but Todd Rich and jeff Duran gave the sophomores hope when they won the Tricycle Race. The second day was Fifties Day, and almost everyone appeared to catch the mood by wear- ing penny loafers or bobby socks and giving the thumbs-up sign. During nutrition, some of the cooler members of each class tried to stuff as many people as possible into VW's. The soph- omores managed to cram a record 28 people into their car. At lunch, Steve Byrne and Lisa Bus- kirk dropped by to win the Fonzie and Pinky look-alike contest. Afterwards, the crowd grooved to the tunes of HARD TIMES, courtesy of KEZY, while juniors Terri Raney and David Burke danced their way to victory in the dance contest. Canyon's colors and buttons were seen every- where on the third day of Spirit Week. Com- anches wore variations of brown and gold and buttons that ranged from I'm a member of the Mickey Mouse Club, to Kiss me, I may be a prince. Each class displayed its spirit by decora- ting a certain part of the school. The juniors' nur- sery scene turned out to be a winner, which, combined with the points they gained from their yells, caused them to win the 1977 Spirit Week. At the end of the week, the crowning of Home- coming Queen Peggy Duquesnel provided a fit- ting end to the Spirit Week's festivities. 1. junior spirit was born this year, literally, as the Class of '79 beat the seniors and sophomores in a close race. 2. The entire pep squad salutes the 1977 Homecoming Queen, Peggy Duquesnel. 3. Princess Bowden looks disappointed as Senior Representa- tives, Willowy Weinkauf and Beauty Beven are crowned reigning queens of the mock Homecoming Court. 4. Tina Misamore, Michelle Meghrouni, Marianne Miller, Elba Ramirez and Diana Boehrer show their spirit by donning rel- ics of their childhood days. 5. Sue Busse feels honored to throw a pie at the junior class advisor. -- -.l
