5.1 E 12-w 254 953 OUTF MEL Mllllit UIIUTI' Hllllll il'lJ'lllD In only three years of existence the Girls' Bas- ketball Team came from the pits to place third in the league this season behind La Habra and El Dorado. According to Coach Timmeree Sullivan, the team had some very fine athletes, but lacked depth. lt's almost impossible to use five players the whole game and expect them to function 100 percent effectively, As my third year comes to an end, I feel fortunate to have coached a team with so little depth, but such a great spirit and desire. Leading scorer of the team was Marcia Mathews, averaging 21.5 points per game. Lead- ing rebounders were Marcia Mathews and Cindy Murphy. Top freethrower Lisa Runels made 78 percent of her shots. The only senior on the squad was Keri Woods who was also floor leader. Canyon's Girls' IV Basketball Team had a dis- appointing season. But Coach Trisha Carl cred- ited the girls with playing their best despite little support from the student body. I really admire those who did come out and stayed with it. Ev- ery member of the small team showed dedica- tion. Robin Mason played the difficult position of guard her first year on the squad, Suzanne Cook, forward, was the leading rebounder of the sea- son, lody O'Neil, center, was leading scorer and most consistent player, Donna Poore, guard, added spark to the team by moving from varsity to play LV., Kim Naasz, forward, contributed much to the consistently improving team and became coach's choice for most improved player. Carol lwasaki, guard, plagued with illness in mid-season, came back and played all posi- tions from the bench with 100 percent effort. For the conclusion of the entire season, see the SPRING SUPPLEMENT. 1. Marcia Matthews displays a fine layup. 2.
