Playing on Ca- nyon's varsity team for her third year, Val proved to be one of the most experienced girls on the team. Some other outstanding team members were singles players lanine Yamamoto and Anne Thi- bert, plus doubles players Deanna Doyle, Ingrid Rekte, Charlotte Byron, Lisa Runels, Lori Scallon, and Andy Pernell. Q Emi -EE E ln the second year of their existence, the girls' varsity cross-country team successfully defended their Orange League Championship title with their second consecutive undefeated season. Again, Valencia proved to be the toughest com- petition, but the girls' superior training and en- durance paid off. For twelve weeks during the summer, the girls ran an' average of 40 and 50 miles a week and worked out with weights three to five times each week.
