LPEII UW' The Science Department began two honors courses and new curriculum for the life science course. The honors classes, in chemistry and biol- ogy, were geared for the advanced science students so that they could progress through the course more rapidly than the other classes. The depart- ment expanded the health program with an addi- tional teacher, Ms. Gail Seal, who also taught biol- ogy. Computer Technology continued for its second year and was a favorite among computer and electronic buffs. Classes like these especially served the purpose of preparing Canyon's students to enter the world of the future. Making the most of the equipment, the Industrial Arts Department taught skills to students - both male and female - which were designed to be use- ful for future careers and for their own benefit. Courses ranged from drafting and wood shop to a two-period auto shop course. Teachers stressed pride in workmanship, the importance of keeping equipment clean and in order, and basic skills re- quired to pass each course. 1. Mr. Ed Ernst, Industrial Arts 2. UIUJUDLEUIIUWUES Social Studies curriculum expanded with an advanced placement U.S. history class, a new economics course at the senior level, and two new senior history teachers, Mr. Loren Shumer and Ms. Susan Strom. Students in the advanced placement classes studied feverishly until May when they took a test which, if they passed, al- lowed them to earn college credit. In the team teaching classes Mr. Ray Dunne once again came through with his Elvis impression in the 50's class. Some of the other favorite mini courses were Cuban Missile Crisis, lncas and Mayas, and World War I and ll. Whatever class they were in, Canyon history students left their classes with a better understanding of themselves and the world around them. 1. Mr. Mike Victorson, Social Studies 2.
