Many students took ad- vantage ofthe pool by taking the extremely pop- ular scuba class, which could certify students as divers. Team sports were stressed during the year to allow for a high student-to-teacher ratio so that some of the smaller courses could be con- tinued. Many courses taught exercises that could be used throughout a lifetime to stay physically fit. These included swimming, tennis and weigh- tlifting. 1. Mr. Chuck Wood, Boys' Physical Education 2. The honors classes, in chemistry and biol- ogy, were geared for the advanced science students so that they could progress through the course more rapidly than the other classes. The depart- ment expanded the health program with an addi- tional teacher, Ms. Gail Seal, who also taught biol- ogy. Computer Technology continued for its second year and was a favorite among computer and electronic buffs. Classes like these especially served the purpose of preparing Canyon's students to enter the world of the future. Making the most of the equipment, the Industrial Arts Department taught skills to students - both male and female - which were designed to be use- ful for future careers and for their own benefit. Courses ranged from drafting and wood shop to a two-period auto shop course. Teachers stressed pride in workmanship, the importance of keeping equipment clean and in order, and basic skills re- quired to pass each course. 1. Mr. Ed Ernst, Industrial Arts 2.
