The CDO gymnasTs worked hard To make a beT- Ter Team Tor CDO. The pracTices were essenTial and They were required every day aTTer school. These pracTices consisTed oT running To build endurance, sTreTching ouT Tor limberness, and liTTing weighTs To build muscles. A new boys' Team oT abouT TiT- Teen members was Tormed, and They were expecTed To make sTaTe in Their TirsT year oT compeTiTion. The Team work aT CDO helped compeTiTors in Their meeTs when They TelT pressure. To ioin The gymnasTics Team one musT learn The basic Tricks: CarT- wheels. TronT Tucks, and walkovers. The Teams on which one would parTicipaTe were deTermined by skill and noT age. This was a greaT asseT To The members. l-lard work, pracTice. pracTice, and more pracTice were expecTed Trom each member. and This ena- bled The Teams To have a greaT year. STreTching is imporTanT before a work ouT. Kim Bird shows ThaT spliTs are noT iusT Tor girls. Doug MidyeTT holds a good joke in. while spoTTing anoTher gymnasT. Bryan griTs his TeeTh as he holds a diTTiculT posiTion. Debbie Rosenberg hiTs a Tunnybone while doing a hurdle. FronT limbers and somersaulfs are a parT oT a gymnasT's daily rouTine. The Teams goal was To win STaTe. The girls' Tennis Teams had been winning STaTe Tor The lasT Tive years. The girls' Team played TourTeen double A and Three Triple A maTches. The Divisionals were played aT Canyon Del Gro and The sTaTe playoTTs were in Mesa. The Top seeded player was Karen Buchsbaum who won The high school inTerna- Tional, which consisTed oT boTh double A and Triple A Teams. Picking Teams oT boTh The boys and girls is done when Two play- ers play againsT each oTher and The winner plays a winner Trom anoTher maTch. The winner Trom ThaT maTch Then plays anoTher winner. and The process oT eliminaTion meThod is used To deTer- mine The Tinal winner. A CDO Tennis player desperaTely Tries To recover The ball Tor a win- ning poinT.
