Many students who had gradu- ated in past years have continued on in the sci- ence field. One of these former students is Mr. Sewell, who was CDO's newest addition to the sci- ence staff. Mr. Metz and other staff members helped Mr. Sewell in his decision to go into the science field. The Science Department was pleased with the completion of the new science wing, where Biology and Physical Science classes were offered. One science teacher said, CDO's science department is one of the best. Good teachers and good students help make it that way. The Science Department felt that when a student had completed a science course, he should know more about himself and his environ- ment, and he should also know how to learn. The girls' new gym was a great addition to physical educa- tion classes at CDO. The new facilities enlight- ened all of the courses, because they enabled more space and equipment for everyone. CDO offered a variety of co-ed physical education courses. This allowed girls and boys to compete in many fields. Physical education was guided towards teaching team sports and group partici- pation. Students were taught the scoring and rules of different types of games. The P.E. teach- ers also showed students different skills and techniques, which allowed each individual stu- dent to improve in his specific problem area. The teachers stressed that physical fitness and effort was what counted. Mr. Rushing stated, 'Canyon Del Oro has the most outstanding athletic pro- grams in the state, and it will continue to be for many years. Picture 1, Move that ball down the line.
