Q Saleable Skills: a Need of Life More students than ever took the six courses offered in Industrial Arts. These courses were General Metals, Woodworking, Auto Mechanics, Crafts, Drafting and lastly Mechanical Drawing. Emphasis was placed on preparing the students at Canyon Del Oro for the skills needed for work in industry. Working safely was greatly stressed. Sophomore Ben Dunn said, Industrial Arts classes are a relief from normal classroom proce- dure. Most students thought more room was necessary in the shop areas, but Mr. Francom said there would be no expansion for a while. Some students felt a need for more and better equipment. Mr. Reyes stated, You need to have a trade or saleable skill to be productive in soci- ety, many students agreed when they said that they are getting experience in many skills from the courses. All the memorization may be a hassle at first, but l'm sure knowing all these dates and names will come in handy someday, commented one history student. The teaching staff, lead by Mr. Herner, gave students a variety of classes to choose from. ln order to make the courses more interesting, the staff taught stu- dents things that were off beat and different. They also included displays and demonstrations to give students a better look at what they were learning. History teacher Mr. Keenan said, I feel that the history department is the strongest department in the school. Picture 1, Free Enterprise is made interesting by Mr. Dukinas. Picture 2, Mr. Keenan reports on the outcome of the latest Notre Dame game. Picture 3, Smiling happily, Mr. Rowe thinks of the impossible test he just gave.
