ss3'i? Chess: Action, Thought, Skill CDO had a very representative team and we think that we are in the top three chess teams of the state, explained coach Al Cor- tez. The lower chess team members had inspiration and leadership from the Senior members, Team Captain Pat Cray, John Cox, Kent Kearney and Jim Cerny.. They also had help from Sophomores Chris Mon- rad and John Niec, and two super Frosh members Matt Cannon and Tad Pacholo- zyk. The team brought home several tro- phies including a First place from Glendale, a Second place from FIagstaff's Invitational, and a Third place rating in the Tucson Open. ln league play CDO finished with 5 wins, no losses, and one draw. One team member commented, l feel that in the future our team will become stronger and stronger. Picture 1, Rick Walk grins as he takes his opponent's knight. ' M... ,H ...pq is i ki ts i, Da of Hope Night of Victor There was excitement in the air and vic- tory in our hearts on the night of the home- coming, commented Senior Diane O'Neill. After having students run with the torch for almost twenty-four hours our varsity foot- ball team ovenook Douglas High School in the homecoming football game. The last runner, stopping only a few minutes before the game started, was Greg Cohen who was dressed as a dorado. Half time was when the class floats were displayed and the sophomores won for having the best. The two seniors that were crowned homecoming king and queen were Kiki Leonard and Gina Gambino. That was a very exciting but tiring day for all those involved. Homecomingfl 15
