The C.D.O. Marching Band was once again, one of the best in the city. Under the direction of Mr. Hoopes, the band performed during the halftime programs of the varsity football games, at pep rallies, and in parades. The highlight of the year for halftime shows was the Bicentennial Homecoming Day. In the center of the football field, the combined effort of both the band and the spiritleaders formed the figure of an American shield. At Band Day at the University of Arizona, most of the high schools around Phoenix and the Tucson area competed against each other, and later in the day the bands were required to perform during the halftime show at the Utah-U of A game. The C.D.O. marching band was one of the bands that received a superior rating.
