DEDICATION A man who has served in various administra- tive capacities, Mr. McLaughlin has devoted more years of service to Canton South than any 5 other person. He was a member of the high school faculty even before the original section of the present building was constructed in 1931, giving of his time and talent wholeheartedly in all that he has done. Any student of mathematics knows Mr. Mc- Laughlin well, for math is his forte. In the past few years, he has been plagued not only with finding out why X:3, but also with who lost his lock, and why and where. The Annual Staff respectfully dedicates this Moderian to Mr. McLaughlin It is our way of expressing our gratitude and our sincere appreciation for all that he has done as a teacher and a friend. Students of Algebra and Geometry profit from his exacting require- ments. He is currently teaching Freshman Algebra with the use of teaching machines. 2 sf 4 FOREWORD The Annual Staff meditated all summer, striving to arrive at a suitable theme for this year's book. Then, like a gift from heaven, we discovered that this year is the Twenty-fifth Anniversary of the Canton South Moderian. Twenty-five years ago the first Annual Staff created a yearbook, and thus set a tradition which has accompanied South through the years. We have built our Moderian around this anniversary. Throughout -the book are reproduc- tions of pages from former annuals of Canton South, beginning in 1938 and continuing to the present. It has been a pleasure to serve you as the Annual Staff, and we hope you, the reader, will feel as much pride and pleasure in this book as we do. Janice Lunsford ..... AND 97 Much to the credit of our Dance Orchestra, the Variety Show this year was a tremendous success. Pictured here are the fine musicians who make up the orchestra, under the able instruction of Mr. Heist. Announcers for the Variety Show were Mary jane Young and Ar- dythe Kensinger, who enlightened the audience on the next per- former. Accompanists were Doris Rhoads and janet Wells. Performing at the Variety Show, the flute ensemble did an ex- cellent interpretation ot' Lazy River, supported by the Dance Orchestra. Hi Society was performed by the Dixie- land Band, while Susan Eberhart did a unique dance specialty to the Charleston. The Drill Team, composed of members from the band, imitated a military parade to the tune of Yankee Doodle. VARIETY SHOW The high-spirited majorettes danced to the A-B-C Boogie, as the Dance Orchestra accompanied them. Soloists Charlotte Hampton and Dean Booth and The Three G's, Carolyn, Sandy and Cheryl Gibler, added that special touch to the Show, Everyone likes the Can-Can, and this year the Varsity and Reserve Cheerleaders give us their interpretation of it in a colorful style.
