Our group has worked toward the goal of a larger and better book with a Variety of pictures, depicting Various phases of school life on the campus, on the athletic field, and in the class rooms. The staff hopes that this year's Moderian will always bring 'to mind pleasant mem- ories of your days at C. S. H. S. Co editors Pat Thompson and Francis Allen Terri Hagan and Jim Tressel find them- selves trapped by another photographer While helping take pictures. 26006500 With the halls echoing the name Mr. P1askett , one can assume that a classroom is either too hot or too cold or that a light bulb needs replaced. As the school engineer and keeper of the auditorium, Bill is one of the oldest employees in length of service. Students know him not only as custodian but as a walking textbook on history. His knowledge has come from the constant reading of books and from serving with the Navy during his earlier years. Bill is always a spectator at the Various high school functions and for years he has been Coach Ash's strong shoulder. On Sundays, he becomes a teacher of the Young Adult Class at the First Christian Church of North Industry. For his faithful service to the school and to the students of the community, the yearbook staff hereby dedioates the 1957 'Moderian to Mr. William Plaskett. if . 1 9 .v I X , 1 1 me NE - i 1 1 ,Vi X Q K 7 f Us -:. -. in ki ' E . i s f w i ' gfffvs i, 1 ' iss X X 5, , X: W . OFFICERS Left to right: Sendai eladfi aqidiaay It seems like only yesterday we entered C. S. H. S. as frightened little seventh graders. Our hobby in the seventh and eighth grades was tax stamp collecting. Why? To start our treasury on its long climb. In our freshman and sophomore year we turned salesmen, selling mints and Greet- ing Cards. This along with our skating parties gave our treasury quite a boost. Well, here we are big time Juniors. This was a very busy year with the ordering of our class rings, the sponsoring of the Homecoming Dance, along with the long- awaited Junior-Senior Prom and Banquet. The theme for our Prom which was held at the Onesto Hotel Ballroom was Mo- ments to Remember. Reigning as King and Queen were Tom Eibel and J aney Mc- Clelland. We used the same theme at our banquet which was held at Amos McDan- nel Grade School. Finally, we are full-fledged Seniors. Kept busy with the ordering of our Sen- ior pictures, announcements, and making plans for Prom and Banquet given to us by the Juniors, We have had little time to realize that commencement is so near. For all of those who have helped us on our Way and have made our stay at Can- ton South a pleasant one, thank you. With only six seniors on the squad, an underclassmen studded array finished the season with a 4-5 record. With a few breaks here and there, the season could easily have been reversed. The team showed much improvement over last year's team and the coaching staff and student body are looking for- ward to a fine season come next year. Mr. Layne has this to say about the six Sen- ior members. J oe Patterson-good attitude, fine team spirit. Jim Morton-a gentleman all the way. Dave Bowman - a real try guy, gave his all. Gaining experience and ability, the cagers started to find the range. After dropping a decision to a fine Steuben- ville team and a close one to Massillon, the boys put the last seven games into the Win column. Among the teams feeling the claw of the Wildcat during this win streak were Sandy Valley and a veteran Canton Lincoln team. Ready for the tournament wars, the Wildcat ran into a freeze against Louisville but managed to win 28 to 19. At this time there was some doubt as to Tome Eibel's eligibility, but this matter was cleared in time for the next game with Sebring. The 'boys gave it all they had but an inspired Se- bring team dropped them from the tournament and ended the 1956-57 season with 12 wins and 8 losses. Considering the fact this was our rebuilding season, we are proud of the iteam's hard work and determination to end Charles fRedj Ash the season with a Winning record. They finished regular season play with 19 wins and 3 losses. All three defeats were avenged. The team won its first six games and then lost three out of the next four, but went on to win the remaining twelve games. The biggest win was a 13 point decision over the McKinley Frosh. The 'team then entered the Dover Invitational Freshman Tourna- ment. The frosh reached the semi-finals and was defeated by Dover. In the consolation finals, the South Frosh lost to Sandy Valley in a thriller 46-45. The team was led by co-captains Ed Lenzy and Paul Kitzmiller. Lenzy was the team's highest scorer with a 14.4 average and 360 points for the season. Kitzmiller was next in line with 214 points, and Paul also had the best foul shooting average making 65 per cent of his foul shots. The frosh squad this year was small, but they made up for their lack in size with determination and desire. If the team maintains its will to win, and if they strive to improve themselves-these players will be heard from on the Canton South varsity in the near future. Row 1, kneeling: J. Schott, T.
