The Freshmen had just begun to feel that high school wasn't so bad after all, when they saw signs of dark, troublesome days ahead. The upperclassmen had not forgotten initiation. The poor Frosh had to-struggle through a week which was made miserable by the wearing of a red F'-' on the forehead one day, unmatched shoes and knee pants another, and finally girls had to dress as boys and boys as girls. To the delight of the rest of the school, the Freshmen had to furnish the entertainment for the afternoon party or be the victims of the paddle. Some chose the latter. An enjoyable lunch was served. The Freshmen were now members in good standing of the Canning High School. y ' A PIE SOCIAL AND PROGRAM - ' Needing some money to finance the Canning Athletic Association, we all got dovsm to brass tacks and worked up a program and pie social for November 2. Betty Curtis and Marjorie Cunningham presented a hitchhiking actg Beverly Fry and lois Aby gave' several radio sketchesg Duane Doyle, Warren Melvin, and Clayton Mosteller amazed the audience with their skill in blackboard mathematics. Mrs. Green had di- rected the above skits. A A 1. f The final part of the program was a one-act farce, Dress Reversal, directed by Mrs. Korkow. The action dealt with the trials of a play coach-CLester Clarkl on the evening ofa dress rehearsal for a play. Others in the cast were Robert Kleinschmidt, Marvin Fry, LaVerne Nye, Dale Peterson, LeRoy Nye, Roland IQein- schmidt, Melvin Cunningham , and Elden Nye. . With Willie Melvin as auctioneer, the pie sale netted 35l20.00. This A splendid backing from the community and school showed an attitude of support and co- operation, as well as made the basketball season financially possible. ' I ' A ANNUAL STAFF This is the first year in the history of the Canning Consolidated School that an annual has been published.
