W v rt 1- V W.. uf-vw --va 1 ..-5 -Y GRADE SCHOOL ITEMS f , The grade school enrollment has been quite varied this year. Philip Armour, from Huron, entered the twenty-fourth of October and stayed until Christmas. November the fifth Dwane, Dale, Delbert, and Donna Pease came to us from the Washington schools, where they had gone the previous year. March the first Charlotte and Ruth Kleinschmidt were lost to Harrold. Three days later Wayne, Hazel, and Alvin Taylor came from De Grey. ' , Early in the fall' the grade school went on a nature study hike. Many signs of winter and the ways. that seeds are carried were discovered. Halloween was observed in the grades by a play given by the girls of the room. On Halloween night an interesting party was held at Mosteller's home for all of the pupils. 1 Cupid reigned ata Valentine party held the afternoon of February four- teenth. Refreshments were very much enjoyed, particularly the ice creaml The Y. C. L. money project for the year was selling bags of buttered popcorn at the basketball games. HEADIN' FOR THE FAIRGROUNDS Headin' for the fairgrounds was a group of jolly boys. I heard a lot of shouting and I heard a lot of noise. Now, when the punchers all lined up for the draw, I drew a.n old white mare, as handsome as a squaw. I grabbed my hat and hollered and I hit her in the flanks, And I jabbed her in the shoulder with my silver-mounted shanks. She left the earth a squealing and she made one leap from grand. I reached out for the safety but I lit upon the sand. The crowd all hollered, Rottenl Your ride was mighty cheap. So I took off for the mountains, got a job a herding sheep. Warren Melvin Eighth Grade
