SENICR CLASS HISTORY September 7, 1942 nine pioneers called Freshmen, set out on a journey of four years to endure all the hardships and enjoy the pleasures of high school. To help in our new experiences of life we chose Miss Jeffries as our guide Qclass advisorjg Erwin Putnam as driver Cpresidentjg Dona Melvin as assistant driver Cvice-presidentlg and Betty Curtis as jill-of-all-trades fsecretary-treasurerl. Melvin Cunningham, Dale Peterson, Dale Leischer, LeRoy Larson, Lester Clark, and Marjorie Cunningham were the other pioneers who also helped the Covered Wagon year roll along. Everything went fine until the third week, when we ran into trouble. The Indians CSophomoresD attacked us for two days, but everyone managed to survive the ' .massacre Clnitiationl. After that, traveling was made pleasant by parties, basketball games, and picnics. One pioneer, Lester Clark, was lost. In the spring when this part j of the journey' was completed, we rested for three months at Vacation, While gathering together in 1943 for a bus ride, it was discovered that two of our passengers--Dale Leischer and LeRoy Larson--had deserted. This left an en- rollment of seven. Because Erwin Putnam had been such a good driver, he was re- elected as chauffeur Cpresidentbg Marjorie Cunningham as footman Cvice-presidentlg and Betty Curtis as-mechanic Csecretaryftreasurerb. Melvin Cunningham, Dale Peterson, Lester Clark, and Dona Melvin were the passengers. P 'i P' 1 ' C During the first week of this trip a stop was made to initiate the Freshmen. Then on through the year more rests were taken for skip days, parties, and a junior- Eentor prom. . - x 7 7- 5 C At our next gathering in 1944, we decided to travel by train. It would be a way of traveling through junior state. Everyone was satisfied with Erwin Putnam our leader so elected him again as conductor, Melvin Cunningham as engineerg and Betty Curtis as porter, because she had done such good work as secretary-treasurer. Dale Peterson, Lester Clark, Dona Melvin, and Marjorie Cunningham were the passengers Soon, after, school had started Lester got off the train. Mrs. Chase was elected as our ,g111,de.a,t the beginning of the second semester. This part of the journey was quite enjoy-. The Juniors, and Seniors went to legislature, and had our class play, skip day, and -5 ,B Being forced- to stop for repairs, we ended our train trip. 2. 'L' -X -fx 1' K -, , fflff ' Since 1945 was our last year of high school, all agreed to make this trip in atplane,tfWhile waiting to take off, we missed Dona Melvin who had enrolled at Benton City,t.Washington, and Erwin Putnam who had enrolled at Pierre. Mrs. Korkow was 1 elected, as guide fclass advisorbg Marjorie Cunningham as pilot fpresidentjg Melvin Cunningham as co-pilot Cvice-presidentlg Betty Curtis as stewardess Csecretary-treasurerj, and Dale Peterson as mechanic fSenior representative to the student council.j ' Each passenger aspired to high things. One, Marjorie Cunningham, was . able- to reach her goal by being on the Honor Roll each period during the first semester. Betty Curtis was on twice. Time out was taken every little while to play and to see the basketball games. The Pep Squad girls gave a banquet in honor of the basketball boys.
