SENIOR CLASS HISTOR Y Eighteen bright faces were added to the roll of Canistota High School in the fall of 1951. They were Berniece Addy, Phyllis Nielson, Elizabeth Giegling, Arlene Bormann, Peggy Polchow, Sharlo Strong, Myrna Carey, Gene Theel, Duane Root, Arnold Papen- dick, Darrell White, Julie Tyler, Elaine Tieszen, Bonnie Faber, Marcia Wingert, Don Dawson, Bob Ward, and Roger Albrecht. September ' of 1952 found nineteen sophomores with Billy Wendland joining the class. During our Junior year Gloria Monson came North to join us, giving us a total enroll- ment of twenty. Our fourth and final year found us with twenty-one Seniors as Shirley Fisher joined us. During the year, however, Shirley left us and we graduated with a class of twenty. Skip Day Bright and early on May 5 the Seniors started out on what proved to be a very enjoyable skip day. The first stop was at the penitentiary at Sioux Falls. Some of the hi-lights of this tour were the excursions through the dining hall where we could see the marks where the cups were thrown that started the late riot, through the workshops, and the reforinatory ward. We stopped at Beresford for a picnic lunch and then journeyed to Sioux Tity. At Sioux City we went through a bottling company, KVTV, and a crippled childi en's home. We were then on our own until ll o'clock when we left for home. Baccalaureate The Baccalaureate services for the graduating class of 1955 were held in the high school gym on Sunday, May 15, at 8:00. Sharon Klueber, Junior class president, and Allen Dunn led the Seniors in. After the processional, Rev. Marty gave the invocation. Hold Thou My Hand was then sung by Berniece Addy, followed by the Sermon by Re v. Marty. In closing the mixed octette sang The Lord Bless and Keep You and Rev. Marty gave the Benediction. Commencement On Thursday night, May 19, at 8:15 the commencement exercises were held in the high school gym. After the Seniors were led in and the Invocation was given by Rev. Marty, Elaine Tieszen, salutatorian, gave the welcoming address. Guest speaker was Dean Berkeley who gave an address entitled Not Good if Detached . Included in the program were a solo l've Done My Work , by Darrell White, and Halls of lvy sung by the girls sextet. After the presentation of the eighth grade certificates, Elizabeth Giegling, valedictorian, gave the farewell address. Supt. Richter presented the senior class and the diplomas were presented by the president of the school board, Ervin Ortman. After the Benedication and the recessional the Seniors lined up to receive congratulations. 12

CLASS PROPHECY The time: 1975. The place: Canistota High School-Alumni Banquet. Scene: As the dewey eyed seniors sit reminiscing. Roger Albrecht, better known as Einstein the II, is still working on his great book called Short Cuts In Advanced Algebra. By the way Roger is still not married. If you see Elizabeth Giegling peeking out of the ground, don't get excited as she is just repairing some sewer pipes with her present husband, Walt Stredde. Sharlo Strong is now employed as a secretary in a large office in Kansas. Her boss is a certain Mr. Earl' Dix. Sharlo seems to just love her job. Billy Wendland is now an Admiral of the U.S. Navy. He is still sailing the high seas hunting for his Sociology book. Gloria Monson now is the world's most famous pianist. Gloria also in her spare time manages a large Dairy King. Duane Root is the famous quarterback of the Los Angeles Rams. By the way if you see a streak of blue flash through the street it's just Duane in hisnew 1975 Studebaker. Gene Theel is now employed as assistant rural mail carrier since the mail from Oregon was getting too much for one car to hold. Arlene Bormann is now the world's middleweight champion of women's wrestling, ' It seems that Arlene isn't married yet but she's fighting for her man. Myrna Carey is now giving her advice to the lovelorn. In case you are interested, her daily column appears in the f'Canistota Clipper. The reason for Myrna's choosing this career seems to be a certain quarterback who chose his career. Peggy Polchow has now made a great success with her new radio program entitled The Babling Brook . It seems one program a week is dedicated to the present Einstein. Bonnie Faber now holds the world's title as the most famous model. Bonnie as yet is not married but she has many admirers. Marcia Wingert now is employed as a private nurse to Mr. Selgestad, her former English teacher. Marcia is thinking seriously of getting married to a certain Mr. Love. Robert Ward has his own program on T.V. Last week Bob was given an award for the corniest comedian of the year. Elaine Tieszen has just signed another contract with MGM where she is a famous act- ress. Her latest picture is called, Shake, Rattle and Roll . Julie Tyler is now President of the Busy Little Flirts Hanky Club . The club was started by her after she gained a large collection of assorted clean and dirty hankies from admirers. Darrell White has just completed the first expedition to the moon. By the way, the name of his new rocket ship is the L. and L. Berniece Addy's new song, Dickie Kostboth has just reached number one in the nat- ion's poll of top tunes. Donald Dawson is now leading a famous orchestra which has toured the entire U. S. Don has now traveled the entire U.S. and is making plans for his tour in Europe. Arnold Papendick is now a world famous lawyer. Of course, Arnold is forever paying tribute to Mr. Shelley. Phyllis Nielson after spending 4 years in college is busy sewing Chintz curtains for her new home near Salem. 11
