The Student Council has traveled far during the years of 1954 and 1955 under the leadership of the
following oflicers: President, james Nicholsg Vice President, Gerald Newman, Secretary, Juanita Heathg
Treasurer, David Silsbee.
The membership drive was put into high gear by running a contest for a IOOW' membership of each
clasz with lollypops for the prize. The two classes that-won were the Juniors and Seniors.
Next came the activity calendar. All class activities and money-making projects must he approved by
the Council. When permission is given, dates are arranged to accommodate the classes and prevent zi con-
flict on events.
ln October, the Student Council participated in the Mardi Gras by operating a soda pop booth.
The l'lallowe'en Party was sponsored by the Council, Each high school class presented a skit and movies
were shown. Prizes for the prettiest, funniest and most original costumes were given.
ln December, Christmas Gift Boxes were collected with contributions from each class for needy families.
A total of twenty-eight boxes was given.
The Student Council of Candor joined the Nation al Association of Student Councils.
The Tri-County delegates from Candor for 1953 and 1954 were as follows: David Silshee, Donald
Strong, Richard Darling, Allan Ahart. The delegates for 1954 and 1955 are: Warren Paxton, Gerald New-
man, Lloyd Harmon, and Sally Davenport.
Among the Tri-County meetings were those held at Newark Valley on November 22, 1954 and at
Groton on January 17, 1955. The delegates participated in workshops after the panel discussions were
The Student Council is, at the present, working on the possibility of organizing a Student Court and
sponsoring a Student-Teacher Day.
