Her:-mm I.alrc.v :Xnvisou . ..C'lmrIv.v Taggart During the live years in which the Canby .Xgriculture lkpartment has been a member of the organization of Future Farmers of .Xmerica it has played an im- portant part in active work both in local and state undertakings. Since that time tive boys have received the State Farmer Degree. the highest State award, and one, Howard Smith, who also held the State presidency. received the .-Xmerican Farmer Degree. the highest possible award. Along with these honors Canby has been recognized twice as a Keystone Chapter. During the 34-35 year there have been 62 paid members, and of these two are State Farmer candidates. The Columbia River Sectional Contest was held at Canby with the local chapter being hosts to 93 members of other chapters within the section. The Stock judging team composed of Lester Peter. john Lienhart, Carl Raynor and Frederick 'loehnke as alternate had a very good season, winning second place at the Multnomah County Fair, first place at the State Fair for which they received the annually awarded plaque. and seventh at the Clackamas County Fair, This organization along with being one of the largest in the school has brought it more local, state. and national recognition than any other. and its members strive to maintain its loyal reputation for Canby Union High. llffl

The three-column, ten-page, mimeographed paper was hegun in 1927 under the supervision of Miss jackson. Miss Parr supervised the paper for several years. and this year Mrs. Friday has heen the advisor. The editor of the licho is elected hy the Student lrlody, and the other memhers of the staff are appointed from the junior class at the heginning of the school term. This staff puhlished all editions of the paper during the year with the exception of two, one hy the Sophomore Class and the other hy the lf. F. .iX. Reporters ol' various organizations assist in writing articles concerning their groups. The Echo keeps school history. informs students of school events. and offers a good opportunity for gaining' experience in journalism: it may he said to he one of the school's most valuahle assets. l25l
