The Music Clubs The Music cluh was organized in N33 under the direction of Miss Sparks. lt is now in its second year, and instead oi one class has enlarged so there are now twog a beginners' group, The Cleft Dwellersf' and an advanced cluh. The Belles of Harmony. lioth cluhs have heen active in singing for ditterent school and community functions. In December of 19.34 the combined groups gave The Gypsy Rover. a musical comedy. Last year the Girls' Glee Cluli entered the State Music Tourna- ment at Forest Grove. This year hoth mixed chorus and the girls' clulx will enter: also the girls' quartet. and three girl soloists. The two groups took an active part in National Music Week and furnished music for liaccalaureate and Commence- ment. The Band The band. under the capable leadership of Mr. Pope, has made great progress over previous j'CZll'5. This is the second year that credit has been given in band work. It is organized by members of the Student Rody who are able to play a band instrument. New uniforms have been purchased this year which add much color to drills. Stunt night the band. lead by their capable drum major, Dwyn Miller, gave a very colorful performance on the gynm floor. They have also played at several football and basketball games, arousing much school spirit. .Xt the .Iunior and Senior plays they played before the drawing of the curtains and between acts. During music week they played many numbers. The three-column, ten-page, mimeographed paper was hegun in 1927 under the supervision of Miss jackson. Miss Parr supervised the paper for several years. and this year Mrs. Friday has heen the advisor. The editor of the licho is elected hy the Student lrlody, and the other memhers of the staff are appointed from the junior class at the heginning of the school term. This staff puhlished all editions of the paper during the year with the exception of two, one hy the Sophomore Class and the other hy the lf. F. .iX. Reporters ol' various organizations assist in writing articles concerning their groups. The Echo keeps school history. informs students of school events. and offers a good opportunity for gaining' experience in journalism: it may he said to he one of the school's most valuahle assets. l25l
