The Band The band. under the capable leadership of Mr. Pope, has made great progress over previous j'CZll'5. This is the second year that credit has been given in band work. It is organized by members of the Student Rody who are able to play a band instrument. New uniforms have been purchased this year which add much color to drills. Stunt night the band. lead by their capable drum major, Dwyn Miller, gave a very colorful performance on the gynm floor. They have also played at several football and basketball games, arousing much school spirit. .Xt the .Iunior and Senior plays they played before the drawing of the curtains and between acts. During music week they played many numbers. Girls' League The Girls' Leztgne. one of the most :tctive orgamizzttions of Lltnhy Union lligh School, completed zt highly successful year under the eliicient advice of Miss Yiolat Lzlgxtsse. Monthly hnsiness meetings were held after which entertainment was pre- sented. .Xt the meeting which the mothers attended, Dean Schwering of the Uni- versity of Oregon was the speaker. The l.e:tgne earned money hy means of candy sales. tug day, flll'lSll1lIlS gift sztle. and hztlloon day. Representatives were sent to l.eztgue conferences at Reed College :md :tt Pucilie University. Shortly alter the opening of school. the Girls' Council, which trztnszlcts the hnsiness details of the orgztnizzttion. entertained with at luncheon honoring the -lnnior and Senior girls transferring from other schools. On the evening of March l5 at very successful St. l'atrick's Day dancing party was held in the lwillltlfllllj' decorated gymnasitnn. 'l'o this event the entire student hotly. faculty, and school hoard meinhers were invited. The most important social event is the Klother's lylly 'l'e:t held ztnnnztlly in Slay. .Xn impressive and lmezmtifnl ceremony is the instzlllzttion ot' new ollicers and committee chairmen held ztnnnztlly in May. liach year at gift is given to the outstanding lreslnnztn girl and honorable mention is given to two or three other girls. The Music Clubs The Music cluh was organized in N33 under the direction of Miss Sparks. lt is now in its second year, and instead oi one class has enlarged so there are now twog a beginners' group, The Cleft Dwellersf' and an advanced cluh. The Belles of Harmony. lioth cluhs have heen active in singing for ditterent school and community functions. In December of 19.34 the combined groups gave The Gypsy Rover. a musical comedy. Last year the Girls' Glee Cluli entered the State Music Tourna- ment at Forest Grove. This year hoth mixed chorus and the girls' clulx will enter: also the girls' quartet. and three girl soloists. The two groups took an active part in National Music Week and furnished music for liaccalaureate and Commence- ment.
