B'UIEDJIEEW E058 ECU EUITUB BEECUIBWCW The full moon beamed down from the sky, casting a glowing spell on the campus version of Broadway, the S.AXs 44th annual Amateur Hour. A cool breeze whis- pered soothing encouragements to the performers as they headed towards the arena in which they would meet their moment of truth. What could be more frightening than to appear before a group of your peers and perform, share an expression of yourself, put forth your very best ef- fort for the purpose of having it judged, compared to someone else? The risks are high, yet the awards are alluring. There is deep satisfaction in sharing part of yourself, polished to perfec- tion, reflecting that special inner self. That is what performing involves, and our performers carried it off with quite a flair. Besides the vocalists tpicturedi the presentation contained three other sec- tions of performers. Instrumentals in- volved Karen Swanson on the flute ilst prizeo, Carol Schneider on the harp, and Kim Hillhouse on the French horn. Vari- ety included an elaborate skit, a come- dy routine, and one of our favorite Texans crowing to a friend about be- ing the best. The keyboard depart- ment consisted of a showtime rag, a tailcoated virtuoso, a synthesizer master and composer ilst prizei and Lisa Specht, the grand prize winner with Polichinelle. What better way to come closer to others than to share yourself?
