Dedication The man we honor has enriched Campbell College by a total investment of himself for the past thirty-seven years. Always a teacher, he has served variously through the years as Dean of Men, Registrar, Director of Admissions, Academic Dean and since 1968 as Vice-President of the College. Dr. Burkot ' s mark on the quality of Camp- bell College is unmistakable at many points, but is best seen in the achievement of aca- demic accreditation first as a junior college in 1941 and as a senior college in 1960. Dr. Burkot ' s unselfish investment in Camp- bell College these thirty-seven years has not gone unnoticed. It is recognized by devoted alumni and friends who remember him best for his phenomenal recall of names and events that perpetuate the informal history of the college. The News and Observer named him Tar Heel of the Week in 1959, noting his great versatil- ity as administrator, athletic coach, and fluent teacher of seven romance languages. Recognizing both his contribution to Camp- bell College and his service to the Southern Association of Colleges and Universities, Elon College in 1967 conferred on him an Honorary Doctorate of Humanities. Outside the academic sphere. Dr. Burkot is appreciated as an inspiring Sunday School teacher, a compassionate friend, an ardent athletic fan, a seasoned fisherman and a some- lime golfer. Dr. Burkot has made a further investment in Campbell College through the members of his family. Through the years he and Mrs. Burkot have had the satisfaction of seeing their son and their daughter in positions of leadership at the college, where each was prepared pro- fessionally and awarded a degree. Dr. Burkot ' s delight in his family is well known. His smile at the mere mention of his four granddaughters is one of his most winsome features.
