Un: ,Musical Department X Campbell High is very proud of both their band and their glee clubs. These two organizations have brought many honors to our school and they are a major part of our extra-curricular activities. THE BAND. Perhaps the band is best remembered as the enter- tainers during the half times of the football games, for everyone looked forward to these splendid performances. But the band has many other functions in addition to this. They put on several assembly programs for the student body during the school year, and they always present a Christmas Concert. Each year they enter the Regional Music Festival. For the past three years they have walked off with superior ratings. They will enter again this year in the AA Region. Several ofthe individual members will also enter this festival. They also take part in many ofthe local parades each year, as in the parade opening the Cobb County Fair. The maiorettes, which consist of tour members ofthe band, always lead the band as they march in the Saint Patrick's Day Parade andthe Armed Forces Day Parade in Atlanta. This year, six of the members--Joyce Abbott, Janet Couey, Susan Sammons, Tim Camp, Terry Segers, and Leroy Davis--went to the District Music Festival in Marietta and made the top band. This year the band sold band booster cards in order to make money for new instruments and new band uniforms. So far, they have acquired a new instrument, the basoon. Mr. Leon Cole, Jr., the director, is doing a fine iob with the Marching Band and with the Beginners' Band. The results of all their work are shown in the annual Spring Concert. This is the climax of the year for the Campbell High Band. The Glee Club composes the other division of the musical department. Mr. William Blatt, the director, has four groups--the Concert Choir, the ACuppeIIa Choir, the Girls' Chorus, and the Ninth Grade Girls' Chorus--which make up the Campbell Glee Club. These glee clubs share the spotlight with the band at the Christmas Concert. They, too, present several of the assembly programs at the school, and sing at many ofthe churches ofthe community on various occasions. They attend the Atlanta Sympathy Concerts for students three times each year. The Glee Clubs, too, have won many honors in the Regional Music Festivals in the past years, along with theindividual members that entered. .ln February, they again will be out to win superior ratings in these festivals which will be held in Carrolton. ln March, the Concert Choir will have the honor of singing before the Georgia Educational Association Convention in Atlanta. The Rodgers and Hammerstein musical, Oklahoma was presented this year as one of the main proiects of the Glee Club. Even though all ofthe members weren't in the cast, every- one helped with such things as painting the scenery and selling tickets. As another school year comes to a close, the Glee Clubs will present their Spring Concert, the highlight of their year's activities. 33
