It is com- posed of students who have proven themselves to be of worthy character, good mentality, creditable achievement, and commendable attitude. These students must maintain a yearly average of 90 or above and must be approved by the superintendent. The purpose of the Beta Club is to promote the ideals of honesty, service and leadership among the high school students, reward meritorious achieve- ment, and to encourage and assist students to con- tinue their education after high school. The Beta Club, composed of 27 students from the Sophomore, Junior and Senior classes, is very ably guided by Mrs. Jo Huff. Some of the highlights of the year were initiating the new members and our new leader, Mrs. Huff, and attending the State Beta Club Convention in Columbia. A new Beta, Richard Shuler. 20

Block C Promotes Interest In Sports Athletics is a must to develop school spirit and unity in every school. In ours the purpose of the Block C is to achieve this. They award jackets or sweaters to every student who has compiled enough playing quarters in any sports. This proves to be a real incentive to the players to do their best. They keep the concession stands at the basketball games to raise the needed funds. Tom, Buzzy and Michael keep the concession stand at the Bowman game. 21
