jtrrJfc: 1965 CAMPUS ECHOES Vo I. 17 Cameron High School Cameron South Carolina Foreword Life at CHS from the first day in August to the last exam in May cannot be revealed between the covers of a simple book. For you, the shy, inexperienced freshman, the wise, all—knowing sophomore, the ex- pectant, hard-working junior and the con- fident, self-assured senior, the story is different and the scope is varied. But some things will always be familiar to each of us. ..the exciting football games, the crowded lunchrooms and the search for knowledge. The 1965 Campus Echoes has tried to recapture a few of these familiar moments for your life at CHS. 3 THE C.H.S. STUDENT Reflected in Learning Adivites +T- i - r K i.y Mrs. Huff holds the attention of her attentive students. Mrs. Huff takes time during a break to iron out her busy schedule. Campus Echoes Dedicated To Mrs. Jo Huff The 1965 Campus Echoes pauses to honor a teacher whose name has been linked with Cameron High for three years. She has given of her time and patience unselfishly and her wit can brighten (he longest of class period. She is working with other teachers like herself for the future well-being of the student and the school. We proudly dedicate the 1965 edition of Campus Echoes to Mrs. Jo Huff. 6 Mrs. Huff commutes daily from St. Matthews. MR. J. P. DUFFORD Superintendent Algebra II MR. A. O. KNIGHT, JR. Principal Physical Education Coach OUR ABLE LEADERS The Faculty - These are the people that see us everyday. We know them for what they teach and seldom has their judgement been proved wrong. We re- spect them now; we will thank and re- spect them more and more as time goes by and we make their teaching ef- fective. An ample library provides students with material for research and enjoyment. MRS. Standing: Tom Moss, Assistant Reporter; Michael President; Clare Moss, Senior Representative; Dot Rast, Reporter; Lonnie Bull, Junior Representative. Council Has Many Projects The purposes of the Student Council are to encourage democracy, develop leadership, promote citizenship, and establish a spirit of cooperation between the students and faculty. However, we are fortunate in the fact that at Cameron problems between students and faculty are non-existent. The Council is responsible for holding elections in the spring, Homecoming in the fall, a Christmas dance, and this year a mock Presidential election. All these were successful due to the team work of the students. With this type of team work, the Student Council was able to accomplish its goal of cooperation in student activities. In the mock election students and faculty almost unani- mously supported Goldwater. 17 Editor Patricia Rickenbaker and assistant editor Donna Bull ponder over a difficult layout. It is com- posed of students who have proven themselves to be of worthy character, good mentality, creditable achievement, and commendable attitude. These students must maintain a yearly average of 90 or above and must be approved by the superintendent. The purpose of the Beta Club is to promote the ideals of honesty, service and leadership among the high school students, reward meritorious achieve- ment, and to encourage and assist students to con- tinue their education after high school. The Beta Club, composed of 27 students from the Sophomore, Junior and Senior classes, is very ably guided by Mrs. Jo Huff. Some of the highlights of the year were initiating the new members and our new leader, Mrs. Huff, and attending the State Beta Club Convention in Columbia. Block C Promotes Interest In Sports Athletics is a must to develop school spirit and unity in every school. In ours the purpose of the Block C is to achieve this. They award jackets or sweaters to every student who has compiled enough playing quarters in any sports. This proves to be a real incentive to the players to do their best. They keep the concession stands at the basketball games to raise the needed funds. Tom, Buzzy and Michael keep the concession stand at the Bowman game. 21 FHA Sweetheart - W. E. Gray FHA Helps Girls Improve Personal Family And Community Life The FHA is for girls who are interested in future plans in homemaking. It teaches them etiquette con- sisting of table setting and serving. They spend a portion of their time in the sewing room. The study of different styles and fabric textures adds interest to their wardrobe. They also study child care, proper diet, home nursing nursing and cooking. The FHA is responsible for the con- cession stand at the football games. FFA Maintains Goal To Develope Special Interest The organization or the FFA of Cameron has done much to bring recognition and praise to its school. It strives to better prepare its members for the positions they will occupy in their future lives. Mr. Dantzler has worked with this group of boys to teach new methods of farming, working on a motor, parliamentary procedure, soil judging, and other practical skills. The FFA has an organized parliamentary team and soil judging team that has come first place in the state many years. The FFA is a noted worthy organization, because the members have realized the true significance of their club and their interest have made it grow. Actually the Latin Club promotes interest in the language and everyone enjoys taking partin the monthly meetings. One of the highlights of the year is Latin Club initiation at chapel. 24 Vonnie Felkel, Jan Bull, Brian Dantzler, Saradell Austin, Chairman.
