Class Histor On a br1ght sunny mornlng 1n September of 194-l we were a group of exc1ted ch1ldren Thls was our flrst day of school whlch we had looked torwara to for a long t1me We f1r t got acquamted w1th our teachers who were N1 s Ellen Royal Jones and M155 Hazel Rosser There were so many of us we had to be dlvlded 1nto two groups The second year was t1ll more exc1t1ng for now we l nevt more about school Our teacher were Mr Stevenson ind M1 s Ann1e Holhngsvtorth Iones Thls year we ga1ned Iac,k1e Ruth S1strunl and Adthe M1r1e Cooke To our orrow we lost Mary Iane Medlln who went to Vis L1kev1ew School ln tne th1rd grade oar teachers were M1ss M1nn1e Muse and Mrs Stevenson Tms year we ga1ne1 Betty Carlse who then left us IH the eleventh grade In tne fourth gra re our teacners were M1s Margaret GllChf1bf ant. Mrs Foashee We w1ll aluay cner1 h tne memorles of tn1 year Vve w1ll never forget the plax Mrs Foushee s class gaxe ent1tled Columbus Tne stu lents really put themselves 1nto lt wh1cn made lt much more 1nterest1ng ln tne flfth grade our teachers were M1ss Effle Gllchrlst and M1ss Eaddy Th1s year we galned Mary lane Medl1n once aga1n and Vance Brooks In the s1xth grasle our teacners were Mrs Wh1tman and Mrs Sm1tr We mlll remember th1s year espec1ally because we took our f1rst tr1p togetner 'vte charter ed a bus and went to Cnapel H111 to the Planetarlum to see Star of Bet1lehem wh1cn we thoroughly enjoyed Some of us were fortunate enough to have Mrs Wh1tman for our seventnr QFGGG teacher also W1th a n1ce ummer s vacat1on over we all flnd ourselves back 1n schoo Vvllllnl Mrs Gladys DIXOHS and Mrs Flora VXh1tman as our teachers Tn1s year e made a tr1p to Cnapel H1ll and Durnam My how we loved these tr1ps wn1ch were fun as well as educat1onal We 1mproved conslderable ln basketball too We had several to leave our class tn1s year, but we were very glad to nave Rlchard Loving Joln us N1neteen hundred f1fty three and f1fty four found u w1th Mrs Eva Frye and Mlss Ann1e McFadgen as our teachers My th1s year was full of fun We nad a few part1es at n1ght and Mrs Raymond Comer gave the class a party for sell1ng chances on cakes and ples Vte went to Wllmlngton th1s year to see tne Azalea Gardens Several of tne g1rls exerclsed the1r volces by s1ng1ng w1t1 tne Glee Club th1s year Iames Ray Pllson became a member of our class tnls year We were proud to have h1m B3 sell1ng candy and flsh we were able to by our class a record player Tn1s was a pusy and exc1t1ng year We were thr1lled at the i . 5 ' ' L SS . . .' ldea of our graduatlon from grammar school lust before school closed we had a b1g class wlener roast at Pberdeen Lake School closed and we were happy at the thought that ln September we would be ln hlgh school Hurrah' Hlgh School at last There were forty s1x of us w1th Mr George Thomas and Mlss Mary Katsos as our home room teachers We admlt we were a llttle frlghtened We couldn t get used to the ldea of changlng classes Our dream at last came true we were on the basketball team Our glrls won the grade tournament thls year Thls year the Freshmen honored the Senlors at a wlener roast whlch was scheduled at Aberdeen Lake Due to ram we had lt ln the lunchroom and had recreatlon ln the gymnaslum By the end of the school year we were gettlng used to hlgh school and llked lt very much Mack Morrls Jolned our class thls year Come the fall of l954 55 we found ourselves feellng a llttle blgger We are now Sophomores wlth Mr Islac Braxton as our home room teacher Agaln th1s year we won the grade tournament ln basketball and went to Chapel H111 wlth Mrs Hlndes on more sclence trlps Thls year we entertalned the Semors at Plnebluff Lake My was rt fun Charllne Cox Jomed our class th1s year T1me sure 1S flymg' We flnd ourselves Iumors and for our home room teacher we have Mrs Hlndes Thls year we undertook many proyects such as the tobacco drlve magazlne sales and the Iumor play Grandma s Best Years We had only one goal ln mlnd the Iunlor Senlor Banquet We had our banquet at the Southland Hotel 1n Southern Plnes on Aprll 20 1956 Thls was a gay event wlth everyone dressed formal We attended the Vocatlonal Guldance Day durlng the year also Mrs Ruth Ferguson and Mr Secrlst were our chaperones Also we ordered our class rlngs whlch arrlved the mlddle of Iune The tr1p to the beach wlth Mr and Mrs Hlndes w1ll never be forgotten They were so nlce At the end of th1s school year we proudly marched down the alsle on class nlght carrylng the dalsy chaln for the Senlors NOW, the unbellevable day and the day we have dreamed of for eleven years we are SENIORS' I It doesn't seem poss1ble, but 1t lS true Th1s year we had a potato crop to help pay for our trlp to Washlngton We are st1ll worklng for that tr1p and maybe we w1ll reach New York our hlghest dream Publlshxng the annual was another blg affalr thls year Our staff worked hard to make lt a success Never w1ll Mlss Foddy be forgotten Our Bar B Q supper really turned out to be a surprlslng success . - . . 1 0 . . .
