nterview and The Serpent, two plays written by lean-Claude van Itallie, were presented by Masque and Gavel. Construction prohibited access to the old drama room, where past plays had been presented. For this reason, performances took place at Phoenix Little Theater, upstairs in Theater One. In the first play, Interview, our mechanized modern life was exposed through exaggeration and laughter. Human beings searching for help and understanding were rejected by highly mechanized and threatening institutions. During The Serpent, called A Ceremony by the author, the actors and audience confronted the questions of where we now stand in relationship to the past, and how we set limitations.
