BOWMAN We, the Class of 1952, dedicate our yearbook to Mr. Harold Bowman, that through the years it may be an ever-present source of inspiration to us who have felt his amiable and likeable character. As a teacher, he endowed us with the importance of knowledge and perseverance. As a friend, he spiced our school life with humor. In Mr. Bowman, we found simply the typical spirit and wit that We would strive to gain for ourselves. Through this dedication we have endeavored to make him understand the pleasure we have derived just from knowing him and the pride with which we shall remember him. In a way, Camden High School is a sort of cake, as we are mixed to- gether with a little of this and a little of that and a little of something else, some sugar, some salt and a little vinegar, hut after we cook it all up together we get a very nice mixture known as 6'Camden High School Graduates, Special. So it is in the United States, a great land composed of all kinds of people, all races, colors and religions. Together we merge and make a great country using the valuable con- tributions of all. Q A l PRODUCES A CONSISTE T B TTER Most of us know the Student Government room by its trademarkAthe full length mirror on the door. Many boys and girls take a second look in this mirror before starting classes, hut, do they really know the significance of this room and the work that is done by its committees and oflicers. Almost all student activities focus around Student Government, some of which are the Social Committee, Insignia Committee, Welfare Committee, the Assembly Program Committee, traffic and the ushers. These committees work to better things for the students by sending get well and sympathy cards, holding dances, put- ting on assembly programs, selling school ein- blems, keeping the traffic flowing smoothly through the halls and ushering people to their seats at evening affairs. Student Government also tries to make the student's stay in C.H.S. a pleasant one by trying to put useful suggestions into action if all the students are benefitted by these suggestions. Last year the classes participated in a student day, which was made possible by the help of Student Government. This year this organiza- tion accomplished many achievements for the student body. As in other schools, this organization is run in a democratic way and is essential for the well being of every student that walks through the doors of uThe Castle on the Hillf' GETTING STUDENTS from one tl iss to another quickly and efliuently ls the job of the trafhc force ns group consists of more than tudtnt both juniors and Seniors, with ll lrol.l Friedman as captain and Mt George THE USHERS FORCE, a school st rx ice organization, assists at tht -utnuig activities, including the Public Spt tk ing Contest, Concert, Spring Shots and Graduation. That extra pinch of spice which is so neces- sary to make any batter extra special was added to help make the year complete. Camden High's annual concert was held under the very capable direction of Mr. Robert Hale partmcnt Supervisor, with the aid of Mr. Joshua Daniels on the eve of February 6, 1952. The con- cert consisted of selections rendered by the y, our Music De- orehestra, band, Syncopators, and choir. It was an inspiring and memorable evening. The show presented an equal appeal to all erations. The gay and lively dances of the C arleston and the Black Bottom were quite a th ' g novelty to the younger generation, and r llected many fond memories of the Roaring wenties to the older generation. The students were overwhelmingly pleased with the selection of Good News because it blended in so nicely with our exceptionally iine football record this year. We shall always remember our talented producer, Mr. Robert Haley, who each year directs the shows, which are, without a doubt, the most professional shows ever produced by any high school. His capable assistants, Mr. Armand Capanna and Joshua Daniels, deserve much credit for their constant help and co- operation. .' f' 1. Rose Puhlic Speaking Contest. The addition of special lighting and makeup further cn- hanced the effect. Altoncl Richardson presented an eerie poem en- titled The Skater of Ghost Lake. It told the story of a pair of lovers and their tryst with death. This was followed hy Beyond the 'Last Mile which was given hy Phillip Aronow. In this story a dead man presented his case in the highest court of all. The humorous hit, The Artless Prattle of Childhood, presented by Beverly Kuhlman had the audience in stitches. The Purple Avalanche this year registered its best season since 1941 with a record of seven wins against one defeat and gained possession of the City Series title. Bridgeton, however, was awarded the South Jersey Group 1V title. Even though the team did not win both titles, it is evident that Coach Papiano produced from his material, a great team, and a great season that was filled with thrills and excitement for Camden s followers. It is also evident that no one player can be singled out for the success of the team, but that their admirable reeo1'd was a result of well-coordinated teamwork. Most important is the fact that Camden is once again recognized as a football power of South Jersey. 31,4 N- uve'--MM3 il'WPi5 L OFF DATE OPP. CAMDEN September 28. .
