DOLORICS MATHIQVVS, Srrrrtnry PRESIDEIIVS IHGSSIIGE Classmates. Four years ago we left our respective schools of elementary learning and entered the field of secondary education. Four years ago come next December some of those who preceded us here first felt the agonizing pain of war. Tomorrow will find us at the crossroads of life, one path will lead to War, the other to peace. 'llhe road we tread may not be left to our choice. VVhat- ever is our fate, the happy memories of our class- room discussions, our social events, the sports- manship displayed by our athletes in competition during our matriculation at our alma mater will forever fortify our consciences to the belief that life is worth the horrors of battle if victory will assure the way of life for which those before us fought and died to preserve for us to enjoy. Uur paths may never cross and we may never meet again in this world but whatever our course, let us remember that it is our duty to fight for and defend always those principles which have made this land-America-the land of the free, the home of the brave. At any time one may look in a back issue of 'fThe Record and relive his school life. Any person could understand our school by merely glancing through the pages, packed with the supreme efforts of the' student body's talented writers. Under Mrs. Oaks' able supervision. Wlihe High School Recordn has progressed greatly. It offers the students a chance to report on Camden High School life, and to write feature articles and stories. As we pick up our Record and look through it we read interesting stories, feature articles, sports reports, and everything else that completes an accurate record. Wye shall not forget the odd bits of news in the School lklirroru, the corny jokes in Ulfntre Nous . and the fashions and news of the Girls' XVorld . The school magazine offers chances for those who wish to try their skill in business, as well as in the literary field. YVithout the excellent work of the business staff, The Record would not be possible. Through them enough advertis- ers are secured to insure the publication of our school magazine. The High School Record shall continue to be the light that guides us back through the years, to our youthful high school days. The Champs continued their rout of all com- petition in the New jersey Group 4 Tourna- ment. They had trouble at the outset of the Atlantic City game. but after solving their tricky Poore Sehuda Sochaneliak ffllflfd Center l'l1Il lL'lll'd fast break. went on to win 43-36 and followed it with an easy 45-29 conquest over Trenton which gave up the South jersey Group 4 trophy and sent us upstate. The boys showed the upstaters how basketball is played down-under by trimming New Bruns- wick in the semi-finals by a score of 54-41. A hard-fought 40-38 win over Union Hill in the finals proclaimed Camden High as the New Jersey State Champs for the first time in the history of the school. And now for a look at the Camden High Saints who brought the quadruple crown to our school. First, we have Captain Bill Carter, our high scoring, all-state center. Big Bill racked up a total of 299 points and was the nucleus around which our team worked. Then there's Dingle , john Kowal, tall and rugged, who can almost always be depended on to get the ball off the back- board, and speedy Walt Poore whose value lies in his ability to scrap for the ball and his faculty for getting those points when they count. The ex- pert floor play and eagle eye of Gabby Odor- isio and the all around perfect play of the ball player's ball player. Ray jones were also impor- tant cogs in Camden Highls victory wheel. Eagle eye Pete Angelastro was a reliable man when a few points were neededg Larry Palese and Joe Havlick were excellent floor men. VVith Bill Schuda, Nick Sochanchak, Ed Kitlas, and Frank Perronc on hand, Camden had the necessary good reserves. livery boy on the team was an expert in his own specialty, and had Camden lost any one of its players, the newly crowned champs could never have earned the honors which they received at the season's close. Much credit is due Coach Bill Palese for shaping a team which Camden High will never forget. Coach VValt Nowak's Junior Varsity squad also had a very successful season. On winning a total of ten games out of eleven, Camden's young passers garnered the city title by beating the YVilson and Catholic -lV's each time. They also trounced the Coils twice, Haddonfield, Asbury Park, New Brunswick and Merchantville each once, losing their only game to the latter club in the last few seconds. Next year's varsity will be bolstered by such prospective stars as Wing, Mille1', Santanella, Giordano, Begich, Mztstrullo and Gordon.
