WHITE IN MEMORY OF We, the Class of Ianuary 1942, pay tribute to a beloved member of the faculty, Mr. William Dreizler, who was suddenly taken from our midst on November 16, 1941. I-Ie never made a brow look dark, Nor caused a tear . . He was our guide, helper, confidant, and friend. To understand his untimely departure is to attempt the impossible. This, however, we know, his spirit will keep on living in the hearts of many of us for years to come. Camden High School sustained a severe loss in the death of Mr. Ralph White, who was known not only as a member of the faculty, but also as a friend to all. His untir- ing efforts as head of the science department and director of the school's N. Y, A. program will long be remembered. Mr. White's belief in, love and understanding of, human nature won the hearts of many. . . friend to truth, of soul si.ncere, In action faithful, and in honour clear, Who broke no promise, serv'd no private end . . The memory of Mr. White, our friend, may well be an inspiration to us as We take up our tasks in the world of tomorrow. FOR A BETTER TOMORROW Months before we entered the war on the side of our allies, many of our former teachers were serving in the United States Army. Now America is battling along with the United Na- tions in total war. Six of our teachers are serv- ing throughout the boundaries of our fair coun- try. These men along with hundreds of thous- ands of other loyal Americans are fighting side by side-fighting for the very democracy we all love and cherish. We shall never forget these men, for to the students of Camden High School they were more than teachers, they exemplified to all the fine character and ideals of true American manhood. Although these men are scattered over the broad expanse of our country, every student and every faculty member wishes them the greatest possible amount of good fortune in their grave undertakings. We shall all look forward hopefully to the day that our cause is won and these same teachers may return to their former positions in Camden High School. The Student Government is a service organization embodying such necessary school factors as the Traf- fic, Usher, and Insignia groups. Each Thursday elected representatives of the stu- dent body meet to discuss problems which confront them and mutually seek their solutions. The September-February term was under the direc- tion of Leonard Hudson, President, Sidney Levy, First Vice-President, Dolores Griffiths, Second Vice-President, Iohn Murray, Secretary, Margaret Steck, Recorder, and Miss Ruth Carey, Faculty Adviser. The February-Iune term was under the leadership of Sidney Levy, President, Dudley Lowden, First Vice- President, Mary Colallilo, Second Vice-President, Iohn Murray, Secretary, and Marjorie Wahl, Recorder. Among the more outstanding projects which the Stu- dent Government has carried through this year was the formation of the Defense Stamp Committee under the chairmanship of Robert Luartes. Serving on the committee with him were Peggy Moffett and Donald Davis. In the first ten days of sales the Defense Stamp Com- mittee disposed of a thousand dollars' worth of stamps and bonds. After two games had been postponed due to an infantile paralysis epidemic, the Avalanche really put the pressure on Trento.n, bowling over the Capitol City eleven 36 to 2. The fol- lowing week Vineland felt the lull power of the great team to the tune of 31 to U. Col- Glemser Siedlic ' Back Tackle kr lingswood was Camden's next victim and the rain really saved them from a worse beating than they took. Alter this 22-O vic- tory coach Billy Palese's boys passed their milestone to the championship by routing Atlantic City 13-U. Camden Catholic and Woodrow Wilson suffered a worse tate than anyone, getting thrashed 57-O and 52-U, re- spectively, The victory over Woodrow Wil- son gained for 'the Purple and Gold the South Iersey Group IV Championship. In a post season tilt Camden concluded one ot its most successful years in its history by pounding out a 9-6 win over New Brunswick tor the mythical state championship. To pick any star players is hard, but Co- Captains Wally Bubien and sure-tooted Al Vogt, who kicked the field goal that beat New Brunswickg Matty Siedlicki, Ray Ksia- zek, Sid Wenot, Reds Sgariglio, Abe Savit- sky and Ed Shuda is anybody's all-American line. Working behind this line were Apples Litwa, Rabbit Glemser, Rags Ragone and Duck-toot Weber. There are many other boys who really put their hearts in making this a very great year tor the coaches and Camden High. Members ot this year's championship team who gained all-star honors are: Glemser, Vogt, Siedlicki, Bubien, Ksiazek, and Shuda. Litwa was chosen as a member ot the All- State team. We added to our trophy case the South lersey Group IV Championship and the Group IV Conference Championship trophies. RICHARD URBAN Left to right-lst row: Glemser, Litwa, Feldman, R. This latter distinction was shared with Haddon Heights High School. c wh Acfnold Protea nag er Xggiycllff tones Three letter men, Captain Claude Robin- son, halfback, Iohn Winslow, center forward, and Goalie Herbert Vitt formed the nucleus of this year's squad with the balance coming up from last year's scrappy junior varsity squad. Only one member of the first team will be lost through graduation. That player is Ioseph Asbell, hard-hitting fullback. This bodes well for next year's success. The season opened with Camden playing host to Woodrow Wilson. After playing on even terms for the greater portion of the game, the Camden High booters came through by the score of 8 to l. The next op- ponent was Haddon Heights. This contest ended in a l-l deadlock. Again Wilson was encountered and again Camden was victor- ious, this time by a 2-l score. The final game of the season was a scoreless tie with Had- don Heights. This Was one of the longest games ever played in local scholastic soccer, going into three overtime periods. At the end the score was still U-U. Captain Robinson, Winslow, and Vitt were this year's letter men. Iohn Webster was an outstanding player on the junior varsity squad. Mr. Louis Feinstein acted as assistant coach. The play was one of the best We have ever had. The audience fairly rolled in the aisles laughing at the realistic situations portrayed before them. The Christmas carols heard after the play added the finishing touches and sent every- one home full of the Yuletide spirit. Childrens laughter, the happiest sound in the world, is echoed all over the gymnasium at Camden High School. Mingled with this are the laughter, the oh's and ah's of the student body watching from the running track above the gym. It is hard to say who is getting more pleasure-the children or the audience. The scene of all this laughter and happiness is the Childrens Home Party given annually at Camden High School. lust when it seems that the seniors who are acting as big brothers and big sis- ters are going to collapse, there is a shout, and then Santa Claus CNorrnan Eisenbergl appears. Dancing in the Senior Ballroom ot the Hotel Walt Whitman, beautifully gowned girls and well-groomed young men sway dreamily to the lilting music of Betty Hart's Orchestra. Intermission causes a rainbow-like display of gowns to file out of the ballroom and to fan out thru the lobby. The chance to peek again into the mirror, to apply those needed repairs, to take the pause that refreshes, ,and to chat man-to-man and girl-to-girl comes at last. The selection chosen for this year's presentation is Good News, a musical comedy by De Sylva Brown and Henderson. The characters, scene and se- lections are thoroughly up-to-date in this alto- gether delightlul college comedy. Tom Marlowe Cl-loward Holtl, football hero of Tait University, flunks his astronomy exam- ination. Things look rather dark for the team, since Tom will be unable to play should he fail to pass a reconditional. Pat Bingham CFlora Thomasl, Tom's sweetheart, persuades her de- mure and pretty cousin Connie Lane CMay Dragonettel to tutor him, and a new love inter- est develops. Tom, assisted by Bobby CGilbert Showalterl, succeeds in winning the big game of the year, and incidentally, the hand and heart of Miss Lane. This is a Wholesome and charming story of college lite-filled with romance and humor, generously interspersed with catchy songs and dances. :fd Gmgoreski George Savitsky Benjamin Pruss Maurice Dickinson George Savitsky Robert Shropslui lxlton Olden T R A C K Frank Ragone and William Warren CINDERS AND SPIKES To greet Camden High's new track coach, Mr. Paul Shaffer, is as promising an assem- blage as ever trod the cinders. Off to an early start, four of the regulars t Ben Pruss, Walt Dilsworth, Warren Gaines and Dick Dickinsonl turned in an impressive showing at the Penn A. C. meet, pushing Trenton High for first place, Graduation took a rather severe toll of the team, George Savitsky, shot-put artist, Dils- worth, Pruss and lack Parker, cinder vet- erans, being the only lettermen returning. Mentor Shaffer's spirits were buoyed im- measurably, however, upon the promising prowess demonstrated by certain newcom- ers, notably Dick Green, Ray Hozalski, Len Wojtkowiak, Ed Grzegorzewski, Milt Olden, Frank Ragone, and Irv Horwitz. Supplementing their performance at the Penn A. C., the boys took first place at the Camden Moose Relays tlndoorl, reinforcing the prosperous outlook for the oncoming season. Being unable to acquire transportation to the scheduled conference matches,.the team has been com- pelled to withdraw from Group IV compe- tition, and is to encounter teams only within a reasonable proximity. No less than six veterans have returned to the courts this year, namely Ioseph As- bell, Arthur Hoffman, Andrew Wessel, Sol Kantor, Andrew Francis and Leonard Smith, The third and fourth singles positions and the doubles team are in doubt, and it is fort these spots that Nelson Boyd and Martin Beck are competing.
