Sfaie Se nate Cha TH Democracy is based on the theory of represent- ative government. That is where it differs from other forms of government. Although these other governmental systems seem new to us, they are essentially old-for they revert to the idea of concentrated self perpetuating power against which the representative democratic system was successfully launched a few centuries ago. The liberty and freedom which we in- herited must be protected from tyranny and despotism, and so our anchor is tolerance and friendshipg our ideal is mutual understanding. We need not fear for the future of America if its people continue to practice democracy of the manner and democracy of the heart. ber
