CLASS NOTES IUNE, 1939 ln an amazing short time we. the lune Class of 1939, will be attiring ourselves in caps and gowns. As we look back. the four years which then seemed so long and tedious now seem to be only a yester- day's memory. During these past four years we have all gained many friends some of whom we shall possibly never see again and yet still others will remain with us indefinitely. Even if the grades seemed hard we wouldn't take back those years at the cost of losing our friendships. Anna llotliman and David Pinsky represent the class as valedictorians. Anna expects to use the 1Vor1d's Fair as her subiectp Pinsky's possible topic is The Four Liberties. Edna Kelly, Heimtraut Dietrich. Alilton Yveiner. Alorton Weiser, Ruth Schow, Charles Kratten- maker, Edna Gerber, Naomi Fritz, Hubertus Loh- nan, Hazel Torkewitz, Robert Alarms, Vincent Blal- let, and Anna Segal make up the list of lifteen honor students. Although the spare time of a graduating senior is extremely limited, Phyllis Nlasten, as manager of baseball: Catherine Carson, Naomi Fritz, Caroline Foca, lklary Parisi, and Virginia Frey tind time to play an exceedingly good game of baseball. No one will forget the unique portrayal by Vincent Mallet ofthe mad bishop, a character in Bliss Lord's annual play, the Second Overture, by lvlaxwell Anderson. Merit should be given to the talented violinist, Francis Tursi. The beautiful melodies produced by his hands have won many awards for both himself and his alma mater. Our nimble-footed Alercury, Harry Luessen, has proved himself worthy ot' such a title by returning with top honors from the Penn Relays. For this accomplishment he received a medal this twelfth medall. Nice work, Harry! Our ending is a sad one because of the loss of Dr. YVilliam Seip, who died not so long ago after many weeks of sutliering. XVe are particularly sad because of the fact that the members of our class were the last to have Ur. Seip for a full term of chemistry. Yve shall never forget his constant chant t'Dig in, well-known by his track team, as well as the mem- bers of his classes. JANUARY, 1940 Our class is well represented in every spring activ- ity about the school. Samuel Platt deserves special praise for his tine work on Camden's track team. Sam was a great 24 The High School Record asset in bringing home the bacon at thc Penn Relays. Betty Zeidman, Norman Sherman, and Alartin Alargolit portrayed roles in Aliss Lord's annual spring play. Numerous praiseworthy remarks were passed concerning our three young players. YVho is it that can be observed snapping unique candid pictures? None other than versatile lerome Goldman. And are his snapshots interestingl Our representative in the art department is 1rene Dusenberry. lrene was awarded a certificate for special merit in art work. A very interesting picture was taken of Dorothy Squillace and lklartin Aliller on the dance floor. A twisting, turning, tumbling exhibition was given by the Girls' Athletic Association. Alildred lohnson conquered all opposition by doing a tlying tumble over nine girls. Several of our fellow classmates are contributors to our Latin newspaper. Our own Alildred Hart- mann is chief editor of this publication. Caroline Giordano is still tops in the intellectual side of our class. JUNE, 1940 Although this beautiful spring weather makes many of us a wee bit lazy, it does not seem to inter- fere with the fine work of Leonard Fuhrman, Xvil- liam Floor, and loseph Aloor, our members of the tennis team. Xve certainly hope they have a suc- cessful season. Yvhen you attend any entertainment at our school you always are certain to see Fred Burton, Edward Colalillo, George Gelernt, Altired Kozack, joseph Alartin, Iames Pont, Arthur Fichter, Adrian B-V liit'eL'7 Eugen' ,JU Eckhardt, Robert Caputi, Richard French, Dominic Palese, Everett Oliver, and Hyman Rosen busily us- hering pretty girls to their seats. At the time ot' the last edition of the Rlicoau, it was our yearly play, The Gondoliersf' now its inter- est has turned to Clean-up Xveek, and the forth- coming examinations. If we do as well in the latter as we did in the liormer, we will be more than satis- tied with ourselves, tor the entire 10A Class entered into the spirit ot' Clean-up lveek with a do or die determination. and 1 can assure you that they did not die. It is with such determination that our fellow class- mates enter into all ot' the various sports. Take the track team for example. tvilliam Luessen, lack Klinger, Louis Slascio, Paul Stauning and Thaddeus Suckiel are out for track practice every day, and when the time comes tor them to compete against other schools, they never have to dip their colors to any opponents. Gerald Tull, Plartin Sussman. Yvilbur Peters, and Harold Turner are members ot' our class who are ou for tennis. itlartin Sussman, by the way, has held the number one position on the team for two years. and with another year or two of practice, will be a formidable opponent indeed.
