Salutatory NSHIP OF TOMORROWN Friends: May I introduce you to the crew of the nSh1p of Tomorrow' the class of 'Sl. We have had four years together--some days were pleasant, some days were sad. In spite of the occasion- al trials, disappointments, and failures, these years have indeed been happy. We have arrived at the shore about to embark on our voyage of life. With mingled feelings of sadness and joy, we leave our friends, the students and teachers of Camden Frontier. While we regard Com encement as a goal which has been attained, in reality it is only a beginning--a step forward. Life has so far been a mixture of work and play. We have established a foundation on which to build our future. We have taken the prescribed courses of study in grade and high school. We have taken part as young people in the activities of the school as well as having pursued the class work. We have tried to conduct ourselves so that we have been accepted as a part of the community in which we reside. We are just normal, average, American young people: full of hope, full of enthusiasm, full of plans. From now on, life will be what we ourselves make it. We hope to make it worthwhile. Before embarking, we want to give thanks to those who have helped to bring us safely to this shore. Our thanks to the teachers who have guided us along the way with their patience, help, and understanding: our thanks to our pals of Camden Frontier for the many pleasant memories we share, our thanks to our parents, who with willing assistance and encouragement have kept our faith firm: our thanks to the school board who has made our education possible: and last but not least, our thanks to the numerous friends who have lent a helping hand along the way. Shipmates, our voyage lies ahead, our course is not yet set, but you will be safe in the hands of the captain of our sh1p,our Valedictorian, Rosemary Salmon. Valedictory Parents, friends, teachers, and classmates: I am very happy and proud to speak to you tonight. I would like to have you continue with the crew members and myself on our voyage on the mShip of Tomorrow.n As we journey into the voyage of life, we will en- counter rough waters and perhaps many times get caught in the shoals. Yet,as we stand here in the helm of the Ship of Tomorrow, we see many new horizons for youth. First, there is the horizon of leadership . Never before has there been a time when leadershipvas so vit- ally important. We all know there is great need for a leader, who has the strength and personality to lead us back to a peaceful world. Who knows, maybe a member of our own crew will become that leader. We see, also, the horizon of different kinds of work awaiting us. Looking about us, we see the voca- tions that have not yet been touched. For example, the air-age brought many new types of work for everyone and now the atomic age is just opening with new frontiers for many. Another horizon we see, and one which we consider to be of utmost 1mportance,is that of equal educational opportunities. The benefits of a small school such as our own should be more equal to those of the larger 011830 Our recreational programs need enlarging. They need to provide recreation for all ages. The majority of people work only eight hours a day which gives them more free time than formerly. When men worked twelve or fourteen hours a day, they were too tired for out- side recreation. Times have changed that and opened new fields so working people can find spiritual inspir- ation and relaxation. We would like to mention the horizon of 'social equality'. We cannot just sit down and feel superior to other people. We must learn to appreciate the cultures of all people and to accept those of which we do not approve. We have only mentioned a few of the more important horizons the members of the 'Ship of Tomorrow' will face as they leave high school, but with steady hands at the wheel and a keen eye ahead, we feel that we can go forth with a feeling of steadfastness and ability to succeed. It is very pleasant being here together on this voyage but it is also pleasant to look back to our carefree high school days, which Ruth Abbott, our Hist- orian, will now review for you. -- Rosemary Salmon

Class History In the year of our Lord, one thousand nine hundred and forty-seven, in the month of September, there congregated in the halls of learning, known as the Camden-Frontier High School,of Camden, Michigan, approximate ly thirty members, who came seeking greater knowledge. As Ireshmen,we chose the following officers: Pres., William Watson: V,Pres.,Donna Cook, Sec., Dianne Batesg Treas.,Uarella Salisbury, Ath- letic Rep., Ruth Abbott and LaVerne Nelson. Mr. William Warfield was our sponsor. We took part ln the School Carnival and Dianne Bates rep- resented the class as Queen. We sponsored and took part in many activ- ities during this year. At the beginning of our Sophomore year, we had approximately twenty- seven members to elect the following Officers: Pres.,LaVerne Nelson, V. Pres .,Jlm burlockg Sec., Donna Cook, Trees ., Duane Bnughmang Athletic Rep., Iarella Salisbury and Doren Howald. Mr. Carleton Bates was our sponsor during our Sophomore year. We again took part in the School Car- nival and this year Connie Aller was our queen. During this year,we de- cided to start a school paper, which turned out to be a success. When school resumed in nineteen forty-nine, we elected officers as follows: Pres., Sharon Persong V,Pres., Duane Baugh ang Sec., Marella Salisbury, Trees., Shirley Johnston, Athletic Rep., Donna Cook and Jim Spurlockg Class Reporter, Dick Havens. Our class sponsors were Mrs.T, Hemphill and lr.P,L. Bell. During this year we put out the school paper and presented the play nGood Gracious Grandman, Those who showed their talent were Jim Spurlock, LaVerne Nelson, Donna Cook, Ruth Abbott, Doren Howald, Dorothy Burke, Sharon Person, Dave Gratz, and Maurice Robinson The Junior-Senior Banquet was held at the Arlington Hotel, Coldwater, Michigan. Our Carnival Queen this year was Marella Salisbury. Dorothy Burke Joined our class and Rosemary returned to us from Reading. As the Senior year started, we chose officers as follows: Pres. Doren Howaldg V.Pres., Marlon Heller: Sec., Harella Sallsburyg Trees., Dorothy Burkeg Athletic Rep., Shirley Johnston and Duane Baughmang Class Reporter, Ruth Abbott. Our class sponsor was Mr. Louis Balmes. TheSen- lor Class presented the play WJust Ducky.n Appearing in the cast were Duane Baughman, Sharon Person, Joan Buehrer, Jim Spurlock, Connie Aller, Doren Howald, Marlon Heller, Dorothy Burke,Donna Cook,Ruth Abbott, Dave Grate, and LaVerne Nelson. Shirley Johnston was Senior Candidate for Carnival Queen. larella Salisbury,a member of the Senior Clase, repre- sented Camden-Irontier Szhool at the Centennial Fair at Hillsdale, Michigan, We again published the School Paper. This was such a success, we decided to publish a School Annual, which worked qut very well. The Seniors were guests of the Juniors at the Annual Junior-Senior Banquet, held April 13, 1951. A good time was enjoyed by all. Baccalaureate and Commencement were held lay 13 and 16, 1951, respectively. -Ruth Abbott
