'Hzirly The Pep Band BOBCATS 37 ROSEVILLE 0 The Bobcats got off to a good start in their 1945 football debut by downing a lighter Roseville squad in a one-sided battle at Pine Field. The stronger Bobcats showed considerable power and admirable form in downing the visitors. The Bobcats shifted into high gear with the opening kickoff. With Del and Bob Campbell doing most of the hall-lugging, they advanced to the invaders' 10 yard line, where Hayes smashed over on a spinner play for the count. VVhite made the conversion good. Playing deep in Roseville territory for the rest of the first quarter, the Bob- cats hit pay-dirt again. This time it was Big Gun Campbell who crashed over from the one-foot line. Bee McConnel made the count 19 with a beautiful interception at midfield and a spectacular sprint to the goal line. Campbell hit the double-stripe again when he banged over from the nine. Fearless Hayes went over for the second time from about the 4, after splitting the weary invaders like duck pins. Bob Campbell ended the scoring for the Bobcats by going over from the 4. There was frequent substitution by Coach John Burnison during the game, giving many of the replacements their first game experience. The game ended with the lop-sided score of 37 to 0. BOBCATS 7 ST. CLAIRSVILLE 6 The Redskins and Bobcats fought a hard, grueling battle throughout the contest, with the line play of the two teams dominating the game. Both teams allowed only one touchdown to be registered against them. Although out-played during the first half, the Bobcats came back strong in the third quarter to drive down the field and shove over a touchdown with Hayes toting the leather, Gibson carried the ball for the precious extra point and made it good. The game ended in a close 7 to 6 score with the Bobcats coming out on top. BOBCATS 20 MT. VERNON 0 The Hrst half of this battle proved grueling, with the Bobcats unable to make much headway against their opponents because of constant fumbling. The last half proved quite different, however, the rampaging Bobcats came back with fire in their eyes. They ran over three touchdowns in the third quarter to polish off the Yellow Jackets to the tune of 20 to O. The tirst ally was made by Hayes, who gave us the most sensational run of the ball game by ripping through the center of the Yellow Jackets' line and plunging 56 yards to the pay-dirt territory. Gibson contributed the extra point. The Bobcats soon had possession of the pig-skin again. They advanced from midheld to the Jackets' 12 yard line, with McConnel, Hayes, and Campbell all making nice gains. From there, Hayes found a hole in the invaders' forward wall and plunged through for the count. Again Gibson ran over for a bonus point. The final touchdown was made after the ball was moved from the 'Cats' 2? to the visitors 45. There, Campbell tossed a beautiful 20 yard pass to Red Arnold, who tucked it away, and scampered for another 35 yards to counter.
