Its members, divided equally as to boys and girls, consist of six seniors, four juniors, four sophomores, and two freshmen. The purpose of the Student Council is to provide a basis for closer relationship between the faculty and the student body, to make recommendations that seem to be for the general welfare of the student body, and to discuss problems vital to the individual student or to the student body. Its aim is to help maintain a high standard for our school, to be useful in carrying out any school policy, and to sponsor high school parties, programs, dramatic enter- tainment ,and banquets in honor of our athletic teams. During the 1944 football season, the Student Council sponsored the first annual Homecoming in the history of Cambridge High School. GIRL 9 GLEE CLUB Combine white blouses, dark shirts and forty lovely voices and you have the Girls' Glee Club. Every sixth period everyone forgets his school work and listens to the glee clubs as they practice. I'm sure it isn't a waste of time. This year, as last year, we had two glee clubs because there were so many girls interested in singing. The old glee club meets each Tuesday and Thursday. The new glee club is known as the Friday Glee Club because it meets on that day. It is composed of girls who were not in the glee club last year. The old glee club made several appearances this year, singing at school assemblies, at the E. O. T. A. Meeting and of course, on Music Night. They were highly received whenever they sang. Despite the work of the Brownies' new football coach, Wil- bur Rapp, the boys seemed to lack the aggressiveness that makes a good football team. The opening game was lost to a snappy New Philadelphia eleven after a bitter struggle. The Brownies then won their only game of the season when they beat New Concord. In the remaining seven games the team was badly defeated. In the naming of the all C. O. L. team, Wilmer Winnett and James Devoll were given honorable mention. Two post-season games were played with Marietta in which we split, winning one and losing one. The team for the post-season games was made up of probable candidates for the Varsity squad next year. The Brownies, winning but 6 out of 22 starts, could well be called the hot and cold team. They showed remarkable teamwork and shooting in some games but in others, they were lost. The Brownies started off by beating Mt. Vernon and a good season was anticipated. Then came a losing streak that started with Zanes- ville and continued through Uhrichsville and Dover. The team then came through to beat Newcomerstown and to wallop Coshocton. Fall- ing back the Brownies then lost to Lancaster, Marietta, Newark, Dover, Newark again, Zanesville, New Philadelphia, Uhrichsville, Newcom- erstown and Coshocton. Coming to the silver lining the Brownies then beat New Philadelphia, lost to Canton Lehman, which was played at Fletcher General Hospital, took Lancaster and were defeated by Marietta In the Eastern DINISIOD Tournament at Dennison Cambridge edged past Uhrichsville only to be beaten by New Philadelphia in the semi finals This ended the season for the Brownies VARSITY Jerry Gregory Manager FIRST DOXX Delmar Campbell Robert XX hite James Dey oll Dewey Householder James Nlahaffey Robert Campbell SECOND ROWffRichard Goodright, Paul Ramsey, Robert McConnell: Don Bailey VS ilmer VVinnett, Mr. Thompson.
