ANNUAL, 1929 Page 15 History of Class of '29 Everyone, we know, realizes what a wonderful class we have been and that old C. H. S. could never have survived without us. Since we have been so famous, we shall try to give you an account of our past, so that all thosce wishing to emulate us may follow in our footsteps. In 1925, four short years ago, we entered tl1e revered halls of C. H. S., an inexperienced but confident class. We were all determined to ben come mighty Seniors bye and bye. Now as Seniors preparing to leave these familiar halls we still retain our former confidence and have gained much by our experience. Looking back over these four years, we recol- lect some of the happiest days of our lives. When freshmen we proceeded immediately to begin our famous high school career. Our first class meeting was held in the Assembly Hall, where we elected Anne Slinglutf and Emerson Erskine as representatives in the Student Council for this year. We also furnished material for athletics, band, orchestra, and other high school activities. Lady Fortune smiled on us and a year later nearly the whole class was listed as Sophomores. Several having found the trials and tribula- tions too great fell by the wayside in our march of progress. Early in the year we organized and elected our first class officers and also the members of the Student Council. NVe wisely chose Miss Arnold as our class advisor. NxVe selected our class colors, orange and black, which have represented a very successful class. The first of our social func- tions was a very delightful party held at the home of Herbert Doughty. The yard and house were elaborately decorated and the committees in charge succeeded admirably in making this a delightful aiifair. The only event of this splendid year to cast a shadow over our happiness was the death of our class-mate, Leonard Patterson. As .Tuniors we organized a little later than usual and elected our class officers, members of Student Council, and Annual Staff. Before long we selected our class pins, which proved very popular, judging from the number of them distributed among the other classes. Our Junior Play Dulcy was both a financial and dramatic success. Our ,Tunior Year was successfully brought to a close with the junior-Senior Recep- tion at the Gym. The Gym was exquisitely decorated and represented an old fashioned garden scene. Now the class of '29 is composed of mighty Seniors. Again the shadow of death crossed our path and we lost a very dear school-mate, Clifford Glasser. We were the first class to organize. Everybody paid their dues, so we had a very successful St. Patrick's Day Banquet, which was enjoyed by everyone. The progress was very good and unique favors were given. But even Seniors, though envied, have their worries. There are many other things to look after: Class night for which we are planning, Commencement, then the great question, what are we going to be? - In the four years of our high school life, '29 has been well represent- ed in all of the High School activities, giving her best that C. H. S. might win. . . Now the Senior class must bid adieu to dear old C. H. S. with her beloved teachers, who have been so kind and dear to all of us. VVe shall always have the memories of our good times and we can only hope that the classes which take our place will be as loyal to C. H. S. as we have been. Anne Slinglufif Helen VVhite '29
