to Marian Year Prayer n, if 21 2 'S 2 Enraptured by the splendor of your heavenly Beauty, and impelled by thefanxieties of the world, we cast our- selves into your arms, O Immaculate Mother of Jesus and our Mother, Mary, confident of finding in your most loving heart appeasement of our ardent desires, and a safe harbor from the tempests which beset us on every side. Though degraded by our faults and overwhelmed by infinite misery, we admire and praise the peerless richness of sublime gifts with which God has filled you, above every other mere creature, from the first moment of your Concep- tion until the day on which, after your Assumption into heaven, He crowned you Queen of the Universe. O crystal Fountain of iaith, bathe our minds with the eternal truths! O fragrant Lilyof all holiness, captivate our hearts with your heavenly perfume! O Conqueress ot evil and death, inspire in us a deep horror of sin which makes the soul detestable to God and a slave bf hell! O well-beloved of God, hear the ardent cry which rises up from every heart in this year dedicated to you. 'Bend tenderly over our aching wounds. Convert the wicked, dry the tears of the afflicted and oppressed, comfort the'poor and humble, quench hatreds, sweeten harshness, safeguard the flower of purity in youth, protect the holy Church, make all men feel the' attraction of Christian goodness. In your name, resounding harmoniously in heaven, may they recog' nize that they are brothers, and that the nations are members of one family, upon which may there shine forth the sun of a universal and sincere peace. r- r i Receive, O Most Sweet Mother, our 'humble supplica- tions, and above all obtain for us that, one day, happy with you, we may repeat before your throne that hymn which Loday is sung on earth around your altar: You are all beautiful, O Mary! You are the glory, lyou are the joy, you are the honor of our people! Amen. as-.W 'evra' im Q',if,q,,,g,0,':.c,,'.,, M., gw acrp 4' Aa . Q eff' my ' i ,lg y

Bllvlzop of Toledo His Excellency MOST REVEREND GEORGE J. REHRING, D, D. Most Reverend George J. Piehring, bishop ot the Toledo diocese, is our spiritual leader. His devotion to his tasks is exemplified in his letters to the diocese. Love of Mary, especially during the Marian Year, is demonstrated by special feast days, special prayers, and special blessings which he recommends. He urges us not to neglect our opportunities to improve our spiritual life. He published lists of all of the indulgences which could be gained during the Marian Year. To the sick he sent a special letter urging them to unite their suffering with those ot Mary. All of us were urged to spend a special day of prayer tor those who, because ot persecution, were unable to give public devotion to Mary. We sincerely hope and pray that the devotion to Mary, being fostered during the Marian Year, will continue under the inspiring leadership of Bishop Rehring.
