JLXJXlA is: za -3-H5 If ' ' . 4 JLJ? pared with that of the most humble mother. l-low blind are those who would view a mother's sphere as limited in its opportunities for service and self- expressionl Is a sphere limited in which one lives as many lives as the mother of a family does? Or, is one limited who is an active member of as many circles as she has children? And as her worlds of activ ligious activities is the most essential of motherhood. All religious teachers are found outside the home, but some of the best teachers in religion are to be found in the home. ln school a :hild is taught the rudiments of the three R's, but it is in the home and from his mother that he first learns and understands the greatest which we all know is the very essence of hap R Religion ities are greater greater also are her opportuni ties of cultiy ating that peace a n d happiness which is the blessing of every true home Not infrequently wt find those who will approve the years spent by a woman in prep aration for law or medicine and mini mize the value of high cr educational advant ages for the h o m e seeking girl There is no end to the years that can be profitably spent in preparation for home making Every mother must be in some degree a teacher and a college or university degree finds lfS full meaning only in a home What possibility for happi ness can not be found we will say for example in music or literature or the various sports and other cultural forms of recreation when mother lends encouragement Fostering any worthwhile activity naturally follows appreciation of it Twas his mother who took a secret pride ln the boy Angelos drawings praised and en couraged him and finally succeeded in persuading his father to allow him to study art Was this mother happy in her work? We know that Angelo was happy in his Fruitless indeed would be the hope of happiness if religion were not its vitalizmg force Unless the Lord build the house they labor in vain vi ho build it And the sphere of re RL IH DXNIIFL 'T piness Can artist paint or poet dream a picture of sweeter contentment than that of a child of two at his mother sknee lispmg the sacred names of Jesus and Mary Let those who will seek for limited careers yes seek them to their bitter end but our prayer tonight is that God may grant us girls and young women whose mid summer dreams are of homes and families who have y isionenoughto real17e that if happy homes are to bless this earth of ours this blessing must come pr1 marily through the mother and through that type of mother who ap preciates both motherhood and home life as the greatest career on earth What happiness can there be where a mother sees her children just so many impediments to her social activities who looks upon them as so many chains to bind her to her slavery or so many bars to lock her in her prison home In these days there IS little wonder that the cry comes from all sides for a solution to the breakdown of the happy home of yesterday This solution can only come through the true concept of the dignity and im portance of motherhood and home making Happy indeed and blessed is the home over which presides the mother vyhose kitchen is her office whose home IS her business world and a baby s lisp her highest praise -Z XP I KP ANL 'W ff' b 'pn ,H I ' ' 2 ' . . ? i , . 11 ' I I - Y .
