Calipatria Opponents HOLTVILLE The following Tuesday the Calipat eleven met Holtville in their first conference game of the '47 season. Both teams battled back and forth all through the first three quarters with no scoring by either team, Late in the fourth quarter, the Hornets scored the only touchdown of the game. Completing the conversion gave the Hornets the winning score of 7-O. The Hornets penetrated the Viking end zone a number of times but were unable to score due to repeated fumbles and incompleted passes. BRAWLEY The second conference game of the season was played on the Brawley field against the Brawley Kittens. This game proved to be very successful in improving the Hornets' spirit and confidence in themselves Everyone was in great spirits that night and the Hornets trarrtped over the Kittens in a 27-O victory. The first string didn't do much playing after the first two quarters, since Coach Erickson thought ii would be nice to let the other boys play in case they had no other chances in future games. Most of the scoring was made by a series of center plunges crossbucks and quarterback sneaks IMPERIAL The following Thursday the Hornets met the Imperial Tiaers on the Tigers field Coach Erickson feeling confident that the Hornets second string could take Imperial without too much opposition started them at the opening of the game Much to our surprise the Tigers of Imperial held the Hornets for no gain and they nearly scored The first squad replaced the second in order to hold the undefeated untied unscored upon record which they held Sweeping endrun and sma hing bucks were rriainly re ponsible for the 20 O victory rung up COACHELLA The following week the Hornets grid team tourneyed to Coachella to play a return game with that team First string quarterback Patil Dickman was unable to play because of the flu Eirst scoring was the Hornets when they recovered a punt blocked by center Bruce Young tallying two points for touch back Later in the game two touchdowns were scored by fullback Donald Sores of the Hornets The final outcome was l4 7 in favor of the Hornets CALEXICO Up to this time the Hornet eleven remained untied undefeated and unscored upon But the Calexico game proved to be one of the upsets of the year The score being 6 6 Most of the men on the tearri though the Calexico team would be fairly easy but they proved tougher than expected Gerald Ca rick of Calipai scored first for 6 points The Hornets failed to con vert when a pass from Dickman to Auker nan fell incomplete Later Calexico recovered a fumble on the Calipat 30 yard line and after several drives scored on a pass into the end zone This was a garre the Calipat eleven will never forget for they were outplayed all during the game EL CENTRO The Hornet went down in iefeat for the first time when they met the Ll Centro Bone. crushers The score being El Centro 31 Calipat 6 The Hornets started off with a bang when they ran the ball after taking the opening kickoff all the way from their 3 yard line to the 25 Two plays later they had the ball on the El Centro 5 yard iarker bat El Cent o recovered when the Hornets fumbled in the backfield El Centro kickea out of danger when they found they could make no headway and the Calipatria boys swep the end to core a touchdown After the first quarter the Hornets be gan to tire under the olerwh lming odds which consequently gave El Centro the winning score of 3l points lf the Hornets had won they would have taken the Iunior Varsity Cham pionship but instead they had to settle for second place BLYTHE The followina Saturday the Horne went to Blythe to meet that team in their la t ga c of the year l was nip and tuck all thro igh the game with the Hornet coring first and then the Yellow Iacket of Blyth coriria The game ended in a lo s tor Calipat the co e 2l 14 ALL VALLEY Valley riono ren se e a ei t e ornetplaver vhicn how ey .v p Sones fullback B uce You g center Stanley Svt anger left end and incidentally only a Sophonso e so watch 'ti i next yea ard Gerald Carriclf right half Those chosen for s co d st in e Alton Amer rian left half and Paul Dickrrari quarter back 1947 FOOTBALL SCHEDULE Opponents Calxputncx Calipat ia Ca i f' Cali C lp i Calipatria Calipatria Ca i t Cal pa ri C lipa' ia Coachell exicc El Ce If vi E A t ' s . s ' .
