ice here and there cmd mostly everywhere! After warming the blankets before the fireplace we went to bed to sleep Less than f1ve hours of sleep later we were awakened by another scream' Th1s tlme 1t was Teach She was yelhng Its snowtngl Its snowmg' We all ran out to let the soft snow fall on our faces Sttll sleepy we returned to bed but dtdnt sleep much for soon the boys were poundmg on the door wantmg to eat breakfast' After breakfast we started packlng because lt was already Monday 'nornmg Ttme watt ed for no one out there tt just Went zoom1ng by' It seemed to us 1t was our ftrst day Ftnally all were ready After taklng some prne cone as souventrs we came back to dear old Caltpat We Want to gtve credrt to Roy Allen Rosa San Roman and especially to Roy Wtlltams for thetr excellent drrvlng and to thank them for taktng us tn thetr cars Be 1t known that lf Mr Cook would g1ve us another three days off we would do the same thrng all over agarn We hope you IUDIOYS w1ll have as much fun as we dld more wouldnt be possrblelll .YLWIOR PRO H567 Ltfe on my Wyomtng ranch would keep me pretty much up to the htlt tn chores but today I felt the ttme had arrtved when a hort vacat1on tn Cahforma 1ust wouldnt wa1t any longer Not that Ol Wyommg dtdnt have enough of that l1qu1d sunsh1ne but my tnttmate and most conftdtng frlend Iuantta Taylor had wrttten to tell me tn her latest letter that I d be mrss 1ng a lot of thtngs lf I dtdnt come down for a spell to spend a few weeks at her new sub urban home near Los Angeles Feellng free and wonderful I boarded the plane at the local atrport Imag1ne my aston tshment when I tdentlfled the p1lot as Roy Wtlltamsl I felt perfectly safe as I remembered how he pxloted the student body as 1ts p esrdent In a short ttme l was promptly served a la Servxce wlth a Smlle by Lela Alvey who confrded to me that she could th1nk better up 1n the clear stratosphere because of the long hours spent tn acquzrrng all those A s on the mun dane level She was a gxddtly happy tewardess Before parttng she told me that Helen Russ had been elected queen for the annual Onton Growers Festtval tn Oregon for l958 I could only remark The Queen habtt S1lS naturally on Queen Helens head Lela cer tatnly made all passengers comfy and happy She told me that the W1ll1ams Constella t1on was the latest plane rn commercxal av1at1on Wattmg enthustastrc as ever was Iuantta We drove to the nearest eatlng place whtch had Della Velderra1n's Foods 1n neon lrghts above rn foot hxgh letters The food really d1d her name proud and her neat W1de Awake Wattresses were someth1ng spectal rn super servxce Della suggested that we go to the theatre across the plaza for a dehghtful surprtse The marquee slgn brxlllantly dtsplayed the followlng tltle DIZZY Dames Delrght It was we dlscovered later the latest sensational htt from Colossal Stud1o Paul Dtckman ace camera man had really done a superb rob of photographtng Alton Aukermans best charms We agreed that the glrls had reasons for thetr dtzzy allment The second feature of the eve nlng was on the tnner human tnterest stde Peggy Rhodes a devout and courageous mls stonary was now brrngmg the hght of the gospel to the most remote sectrons of the earth and extraordmary as 1t may seem was here belng recogntzed and honored After th1s rnsplratlon of Romance and Adventure Iuanlta and I dropped ln at the near est drug store for some magazines A book How to Remain a Bachelor caught my eye We looked tt over and gasped when the author turned out to be our own Gerald Carrtck It seems that Gerald was really recetvrng an ovation from the more homely male readers because of hrs tlmely theme If you cant capture a Hedy Lamarr no use 1n drowntng your sorrows by marrytng a Lena the Hyena The thlng that amused us most was that Gerald was happtly marrted to a very charmlng g1rl Another magaztne was tttled Nebulous Chapeaux and Gowns It was full of the trzck 1est hat fashtons and tts gowns had the sltnktest drapes thts srde of an Ibanr Saud1o s harem Rosa San Roman and Isabel Soto were now known Wtdely for the1r latest fashtons Thetr hat creatxons were even more pashay than those by Ltly Dache Feellng a l1ttle ttred we headed for home On the way Iuanrta told me that the career of belng a successful housewife Mas a ltttle d1ff1cult for her slnce she had not as yet mas tered the cultnary art But Esther Hardy aslde from belng an eff1c1ent and very dependable secretary had sent her a ltfesaver a booklet whtch Esther had comp1led How to Cook Wllh Confidence IH Ftve Shor' Steps At home we remlnrsced about what the rest of the class was now domg W1ll1e Cunntngharn and Manuel Cnavez had f1nally made up thelr mtnds to serve therr country rn a clean up standtng way They were chtef laundrymen for a large cltentele of cinema queens What we should lllfe to know rs whether they count ltngerre when they cant sleep at Tllghlv I also learned Iuantta went on to say that Donald Sones IS now runntng an Unem ployment Agency 1n Calrpat HIS records show that h1s most frequent appllcants are those who had attended Caltpat H1 School fHm m we dont know whether to doubt thts or notl Ruth Luna IS Sllll looktng for her rdeal man She ha had tlve marrtage proposals but not one of them was the type stnce they e ther drank smoked gambled or trlfled She ts one g1rl who cares more for vrrtues 'han look We wonder lf Ruth read the story of Str Galahad? The radro was turned on and the latest news wa now rtdtng the ether waves wtth the announcement that Roy Allen the otl tycoon had struck more otl wh1le dtgglng a dttch and was now orgamztng hts own hill btlly band Once rr ore lt rs proved that We all have our dreams and Hornets have thetr successe Th1s accounts for all the Sentor Cla s of l948 of Caltpatrta H1 but watt the announcer 1s saytng that Helen Rus has decltned her crown of Onton Queen to go back to her Evange l1st1c work whtch she had gtven up two years ago We would have been sad at this news but tt s Just as Iuantta sard Those nattves will have a laurel v reath on Queen Helen s head by the ttme her magrc smtle warms thetr hearts as tt used to warn ours . t . , . . . . , . . , . . , . , , . , s . ., , . , . .
