Text from Pages 1 - 84 of the 1969 volume:

FOREWORD The picture of these trophies in a V-shaped position remind us of our 1968-69 victories. May we always remember the 'good feeling' of winning, and what it takes to win. Let us not forget that when our score was low, we learned to be good losers, as well as to be happy winners. REMEMBER? BOARD OF EDUCATION To our Board of Education, we owe our 'thanks'-for a GOOD SCHOOL. They have given freely of their time and efforts to promote the up- grading of our standards, and thus make this school one of the BEST. Leonard Tarpening, Joe Maul, Richard Lemesany, Dorthy Ann Pieper, Fred Vorenberg. The 1969 annual is dedicated to Dwight D. Eisenhower. Our school, along with all other schools in our nation, mourn the death of our former President, Dwight D. Eisenhower. Mr. Eisenhower was born in Denison, Texas, on October 14, 1890. He not only was a man who gave overwhelming of his life to the service of his fellow man, but who labored to preserve freedom, to uphold the dignity of individuals to maintain cherished rights and privileges, and faiths and better living. He was one man on whom the whole World largely depended when he led the greatest armada in history across the English Channel to free Europe from its chains. And when, for eight years as President, he was the world's leading symbol and instrument of peace. Dwight D. Eisenhower, as much as any man ever, was a leader of Democracy. ANNUAL STAFF Mrs. DcWitt-sponsor, Cheryl Clover, Nancy Hendrickson, Rod Bearfoot, Renee Lemesany, Daryl Mitchell, Cecilia Pemberton, George Fosha, Cynthia Hays, Carolyn Brauer, Joan Pieper, Connie Eurich-Editor, Linda Carter. ’ ADMINISTRATION To the Seniors: The outside world is ready for you. The foundation you built at Calhan will help you succeed in college, hold the right job, be a good parent, and participate in community affairs. You did your work well and are graduating. Life is interesting and each of us must work to solve our problems in order to make our contribution and be worthwhile citizens. May you find success and happiness in the future. To the Underclasses: While in school you are surrounded with opportunities for growth and development. Take hold of the opportunities by preparing yourself and meeting your obligations. If die school or society demands your talents, do more than the minimum. A student body is only as strong as its members. W Sincerely yours, NOT THE SUNSET, BUT THE DAWN This motto of the graduating class of 1969 is indicative of the healthy and ambitious minds of these young adults. The future of the world is in their hands; and I am proud to say that these men and women are the most capable the world has ever known. Congratula- tions to you in this your first step into the adult world. FACULTY MRS. HORN Fourth Grade Grade School Principal MRS. EURICH Sixth Grade MRS. MYRNA PALMER Science Math. The Council entertained the school with our traditional Christmas movie. It also was the coordinator of the concession stand at the league tournament. A well informed student body gives harmony to a school, and that is the purpose for the Calhan Booster undergoing a period of intense change. We have increased the amount of publications by 50% over last year, and many new programs have been introduced, and with a great amount of success. Our goal this year was to have better communica- tions between the faculty and student, and to prove that we're the newsy staff that wouldn't be newsy without the news!
