THE CALHAN BULLDOG 1965 HARLAN VANSPROCK It is said that there is nothing more gratifying to any man than to have a son; and he is doubly blessed who is the father of twins. Harlan and his brother Harvey were born April 19, 1947, here in Colorado. From the day he entered the first grade, Harlan had known no other school thanCalhan. This was his Senior year. On October 22, 1964, the student body of Calhan High had attended a Halloween party which everyone had enjoyed to the fullest. The party ended and it was time to go home--but to his home, Harlan never returned. He had been so vital, so alive and happy a few short seconds before that moment that we could hardly realize his death was real; that he was gone. His passing has left within the Senior Class an empty space which no one but Harlan can ever fill. We ail remember him for his quiet friendliness, and for his unassuming parti- cipation in all phases of athletics and school activities. To Harlan Sprock; we, the students of Calhan School, who miss him greatly, dedicate this annual. Dear Lord, we question not the wisdom Which prompted Thee to call our friend away; There must have been a need for him in Heaven; Some celestial role which only he could play. He heard Thy voice and quickly did he answer. His youthful feet went running home to Thee. We pray his death may teach us just how fragile; How noble the human dream may be. So if he left some mortal wish behind him Half-dreamed, half-planned ambition to which his death gave pause, We ask then, that our grief may be transmuted Into the work for his unfinished cause. 2 The Annual Staff presents this annual to you, the students, and your parents with sincere hopes that m years to follow you will look over these pages and find many fond memories of the year 1964-65. To my fellow seniors may I say that, even though we must now go our separate ways into the future, may we always remain together through the memories held in these pages. Lay-Out 4 It has been a great pleasure to have steered the ship of education in the Calhan School System for the past year. The youth and personnel of the school have caused this to be one of the shortest years in my career. I wish to each of you a number of happy and prosperous years. May my future relations be as pleasant as has been the past one. Yours very truly, Lee Little Superintendent Edward Glaser, Pres. Richard Lemesany, Director Harry McQueen, Sec. Joe Maul, Director BOARD OF EDUCATION The management of a school lies in the hands of the school board. These men give, unselfishly, their services to the staff and students of a school; deciding what, in their judgment, will benefit the school most Suc- cessfully. Albert Kobilan, Treas. MR. Most important to develop habits of careful planning and methodical procedure in wood con- struction. HOME ECONOMICS Teaching girls to cook, sew, and keep a home is one of the most rewarding of our experiences .Prob- lems and responsibil- ities of our country will soon rest on the shoulders of our youth The strength of our nation depends upon the strength of our homes. CHEMISTRY By means of experiments, chemistry is brought more forcibly to the attention of the students because they see chemistry in operation.
