CALHAN HIGH SCHOOL Calhan, Colorado BULLDOG Larry Fox, Editor Congratulations to you, the Annual Staff and your Sponsor, Mrs. DeWitt, on a job well done. As you reflect upon your high school days, may it serve to remind you of the relationship which meant so much then, and will serve as a guide when you assume citizenship. It is the hope of the faculty that the graduating class will continue to think of Calhan High as Our School, and that these people who are closing the door on their public school days will continue their education in our colleges and universities. We grow in knowledge—one can never obtain an over abundance of it. Superintendent Annual Staff Larry Fox........... David Dzurovchin , Edwin Glaser....... Errol Hertneky..... Shirley Mikita..... We have tried to raise the standards in everything we've done. So that everyone will remember the class of 61. The boys are the envy of the entire school. Their achievements stand forth like a blazing jewel. They have treated all with much respect. From a class like this, what else could you expect2 The girls who number only five. Are wide awake, and much alive. They are more than willing to do their share. And not afraid to show they care. If you need a waitress who can really go, Who can get things done and is never slow Then, Karen is the girl for you, She is always on time and will see you through. A little package that is mighty sweet. Done up in ribbons and always neat. Is sure to be our Nita, on this you can rely. The boys glance in her direction and give a long, long sigh. Mary, as her name implies. Has beautiful, clear and serene eyes. Her beauty makes one dream of home, A place to settle and never roam. The one who always does her best, And is a good example for the rest, Is our Nancy, tried and true, She can do anything than anyone else can do. The one who has good ideas and always sees them through. Who will do her share and others to make her dreams come true. Is dear little brown-eyed Shirley, no less With spirit like this she will be a success. Who is the life of the party. Where ever he may be ? A student, a leader, a friend and still Modest, and known to all as Bill. V Always there when you need him. Never leaves you out on a limb. Who is loved by young and old alike. Tall, dark and handsome; of course, it's Mike. Now, if you'd like to play some ball. You have only to furnish the hall. The seniors will furnish all the rest. They will stay in there and do their best. -i Edwin is the one who has the lovely red hair. He has so many talents he makes people stare. He races down the ball court with a full head of steam. By his own enthusiasm, he sparks the entire team. Larry is spoken of as artistic, gentle, and sweet. To the young boys he is a hero, and the girls think he is neat. The big thrill comes when he, with the team comes on the floor. The Pep Club, audience, friends and all yell, Larry, raise that score. A nervous bundle of energy. On the go and suits us to a T, Always happy, a friend to all. This is Virgil, always right on the ball i £1 ball. JT A student of whom we can all be proud, Who by his mein stands out in any crowd. For his examples much praise has won By these words, we describe our David Dzurovchin. Now let us tell you of Eugene Kasko. His ship through life he is sure to row. Who tackles a job with all his might. He never gives up without a fight Harry, a farmer wants to be. A fine vocation as all can see.( We hope that he will find a wife. Who will keep him happy all his life. One that is steady, dependable, and true. Who is willing to help to see things through. We know a success he will surely be We'll always remember Errol Hertneky, i He came to us from Ramah in his Freshman year. We want you to know right now, Earl, that we're glad you're here. A finer class doesn't exist under the sun. Than the Senior Class of 61. The High School library this year con- sists of many fiction books, magazines and reference books, including a new set of Encyclopedia Britannicas. The non-fiction books are arranged according to the Dewey Decimal System. Many new books have been added to the shelves this year, and we have kept college material available to interested students. The librarians are Shirley Mikita, and Juanita Guthrie, under the sponsorship of Mrs. Pohlson. Seminar Seven students from our school participated in the Seminar this year, together with stu- dents from Kiowa and Simla. The meetings, held at the different schools proved to be very interesting. No credit is given for this extra work. The students do this on their own time, but all agree it is worth their while. 22 s HUtt ' i I i||il|!.| hill,„l iliIU1II1IJIII-HI -I- Edwin Glaser Bill Trojanovich Jackie Walberg Nancy Kucerik Dorothy DeWitt Gladys Trojanovich Kenny Fosha Distillation Process Experiment Mr. Ullom, Instructor Vacuum Pump Demonstration Band HIGH SCHOOL BAND Mr. Brewer Director Bill Trojanovich Robert Saleny Ernest Mikita Kenny Fosha Gary Craig Lonnie Harding Stanley Skaggs Carl Rowland Mr. Brewer Jackie Walberg Karen Corder David Glaser Dorothy DeWitt Linda Norvell Marylin Fosha Anita Corder Orchestra This is our Orchestra.
